Infinitely Variable Ratio Transmission Five Piston Variator

US Patent:
2003003, Feb 13, 2003
Filed:
Jun 21, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/176932
Inventors:
Fred Keiser - Seguin TX, US
International Classification:
F16H047/08
US Classification:
475/091000
Abstract:
The invention is an infinitely variable ratio transmission that may include an input shaft connected to a carrier plate. The input shaft is disposed within the bore of a sun gear. At least one planetary gear is rotatably attached to the carrier plate. A ring gear is connected to an output shaft. The planetary gear is disposed between and meshed with the ring gear and the sun gear. A pump having a first and second gear enclosed within a housing is disposed about the input shaft. The second gear is attached to the sun gear. A pump oil pickup passageway connects an inlet port on the pump to a pump oil reservoir. A pump oil return passageway connects an outlet port of the pump to the reservoir. A control valve is provided to regulate fluid flow through the pump. Various clutch arrangements are disclosed to provide a reverse mode. In one embodiment of the invention a five piston variation pump is described in which the pistons are urged against an eccentric lobe mounted on the crankshaft of the transmission. A working fluid is charged into the piston cylinders to control the contact force applied by the pistons to the eccentric lobe, thereby controlling the rotational speed of the crankshaft.

Captivated Seal Assembly

US Patent:
2016028, Sep 29, 2016
Filed:
Mar 24, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/667335
Inventors:
David Keiser - Seguin TX, US
Fred Keiser - Seguin TX, US
International Classification:
F16K 5/06
F16J 15/02
F16J 15/12
Abstract:
A captivated seal assembly is disclosed. The seal assembly may include a metal seat shield, an annular elastomeric seal and a metal bonding ring. The metal bonding ring is preferably bonded to and fully encapsulated within the annular elastomeric seal. The composite metal bonding ring and elastomeric seal is contained in an annular recess formed in the metal seat shield. The metal bonding ring is secured to the metal seat shield, thereby retaining the elastomeric seal within the annular recess of the metal seat shield. The metal bonding ring may include a plurality of support pads for engagement with an annular back wall of the metal seat shield.
