09/563866
Inventors:
George E. Duckett - Charlton MA
Assignee:
Karl Storz Endovision - Charlton MA
International Classification:
G01N 2101
US Classification:
356244, 356213, 356 731, 356124, 3561245, 3562372, 600103, 600108, 600127
Abstract:
An inspection system for performing a test selected from the group consisting of field of view, angle of view, distortion, image quality, depth of field, illumination system transmission efficiency, illumination profile, relative transmission of imaging system and centering error of a rigid, rod lens endoscope. The inspection system includes a testing station supporting a plurality of targets for measuring an optical performance of the endoscope, and a controller controllably displacing the testing station linearly toward and away from the endoscope and rotating the testing station at a nominal angle of view of the endoscope about a first axis and rotating the targets about a second axis parallel to the first axis to selectively displace each of the targets into the field of view of the endoscope.

Objective Lens Design For Miniature Endoscope

US Patent:
2008025, Oct 16, 2008
Filed:
Apr 13, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/735198
Inventors:
George E. Duckett - Castaic CA, US
International Classification:
G02B 13/04
US Classification:
359753
Abstract:
An endoscope objective lens system design is disclosed, generally comprising a first lens group having overall negative refractive power, a second lens group having overall positive refractive power, and an aperture diaphragm disposed between the first and second lens groups wherein the first lens group includes a plano-concave lens with its concave surface facing the objective end of the endoscope.

Compensated Relays For Reducing Number Of Elements In Rod Lens Endoscopes

US Patent:
2013025, Sep 26, 2013
Filed:
Mar 26, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/429853
Inventors:
George E. Duckett III - Castaic CA, US
International Classification:
A61B 1/002
US Classification:
600163
Abstract:
An endoscope and optical system for an endoscope having rod lenses and correction lens groups where the number of relay lens systems is greater than the number of correction lens groups in the endoscope and optical system of the endoscope.

Method And Apparatus For Evaluating The Performance Characteristics Of Endoscopes

US Patent:
6388742, May 14, 2002
Filed:
May 3, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/563867
Inventors:
George E. Duckett - Charlton MA
Assignee:
Karl Storz Endovision - Charlton MA
International Classification:
G01N 2100
US Classification:
356 731, 600103
Abstract:
An apparatus for evaluating performance of a test endoscope includes a plurality of light sources, each generating a respective beam of light which is transmitted through the test endoscope. The apparatus further has a grid formed with a plurality of evenly spaced and uniformly sized pinholes intercepting a beam of light. The grid is utilized to perform a field of view, image quality, distortion, depth of field and an angle of view tests of the test endoscope. The apparatus further has a fiber optic light guide having one of its ends bifurcated and designed so that the bifurcated ends have the same output for evaluating light transmission through the test endoscope.

Trocar With Detachable Lighting System

US Patent:
2022040, Dec 22, 2022
Filed:
Jun 21, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/352808
Inventors:
- Tuttlingen, DE
George DUCKETT - Castaic CA, US
Chris ZIMMER - Santa Barbara CA, US
Assignee:
KARL STORZ SE & Co. KG - Tuttlingen
International Classification:
A61B 17/34
A61B 1/06
A61B 1/00
Abstract:
A trocar is provided that is adapted to insert a lighting attachment into a body cavity. The trocar connects at its distal end to the lighting attachment such that it can be pushed into the body cavity. An endoscope may then be inserted through the trocar into the body cavity. The lighting attachment is configured to detach from the trocar and attach to the endoscope head to provide additional lighting to the endoscope. The lighting attachment includes foldable lighting panels that expand when in use in order to light a wider field of view. The lighting attachment may be powered by induction coil from the endoscope.

Constant Horizon 3D Imaging System And Related Method

US Patent:
2018027, Sep 20, 2018
Filed:
Mar 14, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/458199
Inventors:
- Tuttlingen, DE
- Goleta CA, US
Daniel Ulmschneider - Nendingen, DE
Lawrence Natusch - Tuttlingen, DE
George E. Duckett III - Castaic CA, US
International Classification:
H04N 13/02
H04N 13/00
G02B 23/24
Abstract:
An imaging system includes an imaging scope, a controller, a camera, and a processor. The imaging scope is selectively rotatable about a longitudinal axis relative to a horizon plane. The imaging scope has at least three optical channels, each including a respective objective that captures light. The objectives are positioned such that respective viewing direction axes of the optical channels extend at least substantially parallel to one another. The controller activates a pair of optical channels that is at least as parallel relative to the horizon plane as any other pair of optical channels. The camera generates a first image representative of light captured by a first optical channel of the activated pair of optical channels, and a second image representative of light captured by a second optical channel of the activated pair of optical channels. The processor generates a 3D image using the first and second images.

Solid State Variable Direction Of View Endoscope

US Patent:
2015006, Mar 5, 2015
Filed:
Nov 11, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/538308
Inventors:
- Goleta CA, US
Hans David Hoeg - Washington DC, US
George E. Duckett III - Castaic CA, US
Nathan Jon Schara - Washougal WA, US
International Classification:
A61B 1/00
A61B 1/05
US Classification:
600109
Abstract:
An endoscope with a wide angle lens that comprises an optical axis that is angularly offset from a longitudinal axis of the endoscope such that the optical axis resides at an angle greater than zero degrees to the longitudinal axis. The wide angle lens system simultaneously gathers an endoscopic image field, the endoscopic image field at least spanning the longitudinal axis and an angle greater than ninety degrees to the longitudinal axis. The endoscope includes an optical lens system to at least partially even out the information density across an imaging surface area of the imager.
