A repulsion-type permanent magnet bearing system for watthour meters includes identical upper and lower permanent magnet assemblies. Each assembly includes a hollow cylindrical magnet including a temperature compensating sleeve extending through each magnet center opening. Soft magnetic shielding cups are attached to the rotor and stator parts of the meter to carry the permanent magnet assemblies in facing relationships. The permanent magnet size and orientation with respect to each other and the cups provides an optimumly maintained bearing gap spacing.

A sealing ring for clamping a watthour meter to a meter socket box includes a permanent locking mechanism mounted on the ends of a clamping band. A catch assembly includes a detent carried within a shielding enclosure on one band end. A latching assembly carried on the second band end has an extending latching member insertable into the enclosure for fixed and irremovable engagement by the detent within the enclosure.

A voltage magnetic section of a watthour meter includes a voltage flux lagging loop formed integrally with a platform part directly attached to the voltage magnetic core.
