An apparatus and method are provided for decomposition of a propellant. The propellant includes an ionic salt and an additional fuel. Means are provided for decomposing a major portion of the ionic salt. Means are provided for combusting the additional fuel and decomposition products of the ionic salt.

Combustion Nozzle Fluidic Injection Assembly

US Patent:
7775460, Aug 17, 2010
Filed:
Oct 24, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/585597
Inventors:
Gerald R. Berg - Renton WA, US
Nathan L. Messersmith - South Windsor CT, US
Gary L. Lidstone - Federal Way WA, US
John Hinkey - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
United Technologies Corporation - Hartford CT
International Classification:
B63H 25/46
F02K 1/00
US Classification:
23926517, 60770
Abstract:
A fluid flow system for use with a gas turbine engine includes an exhaust nozzle, a primary air supply valve, a distribution manifold connected to the primary fluid supply valve and in fluid communication therewith, and a plurality of fluid injector assemblies positioned at the exhaust nozzle and connected in fluid communication with the distribution manifold. Each fluid injector assembly includes a first tube, a secondary air valve positioned at least partially within the first tube and in fluid communication with the distribution manifold, a fuel valve positioned at least partially within the first tube and located downstream of the air valve, an igniter extending into the first tube downstream of the fuel valve, and an outlet in fluid communication with the first tube and connected in fluid communication with the exhaust nozzle. The outlet has a different geometry than the first tube.

Food Processing Method And Apparatus

US Patent:
2004026, Dec 30, 2004
Filed:
May 7, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/431281
Inventors:
John Hinkey - Seattle WA, US
Gerald Berg - Renton WA, US
Donn Mueller - Allston MA, US
Kirk Lupkes - Renton WA, US
Michael Aarnio - Kirkland WA, US
International Classification:
A22C009/00
US Classification:
452/141000
Abstract:
A food processing apparatus has fuel and oxidizer sources and an igniter positioned to ignite a mixture of fuel and oxidizer. The ignition produces a shock wave. The igniter is positioned to sequentially ignite sequential mixtures to produce sequential shock waves. A conveyor carries items of food to an operative position to be impacted by shock waves.

Detonative Cleaning Apparatus

US Patent:
2005013, Jun 16, 2005
Filed:
Dec 11, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/733556
Inventors:
Michael Aarnio - Kirkland WA, US
James Hochstein - Seattle WA, US
Scott Flatness - Seattle WA, US
Gerald Berg - Renton WA, US
International Classification:
F23C011/04
US Classification:
431001000
Abstract:
An apparatus for cleaning a surface within a vessel is supported at least partially above a support surface. The apparatus had an elongate combustion conduit extending from an upstream end to a downstream end The downstream end is associated with an aperture in a wall of the vessel and positioned to direct a shock wave toward the surface. A guide member is on the support surface. A number of support assemblies support the combustion conduit at a number of locations along a length of the combustion conduit and engage the at least one guide member.
