Compositions, Methods And Devices For Treatment Of Urethral Disorders

US Patent:
2003023, Dec 18, 2003
Filed:
Mar 22, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/104233
Inventors:
Marvin Slepian - Tucson AZ, US
Daniel Yachia - Herzliya-on-Sea, IL
Gill Heart - Tucson AZ, US
Lucjan Hronowski - Bedford MA, US
Assignee:
Harmonia Medical Technologies, Inc.
International Classification:
A61K031/74
A61M031/00
US Classification:
604/500000, 424/078080
Abstract:
Compositions have been developed to reduce or relieve prostatic obstruction. The polymers are used as an endourethral polymer liner. A biodegradable polymer liner layer can be applied to the prostatic urethra by in situ casting, or insertion and shaping of polymeric materials. This liner is preferably formed from structurally supportive, yet eventually biodegradable, polymers which further bolster and support the urethra and peri-urethral tissue during healing, eliminating the need for post-procedure catheter drainage. This step may be optional in specific clinical circumstances. Alternatively, the polymer coating may be applied to the in-situ casted structurally supportive liner, to decrease adhesion and/or provide release of drugs to enhance healing. The compositions can also be used for intra-prostatic void exclusion and space filling with adhesive and/or therapeutic polymers. Voids created as a result of intra-gland “shelling out” are filled with adhesive polymers which facilitate intraprostatic void cavity wall bonding and healing. Polymers are specifically selected to minimize inflammation, secondary bleeding and late fibrotic scarring and stricturing.

Implantable Ultrasound Systems And Methods For Enhancing Localized Delivery Of Therapeutic Substances

US Patent:
2004026, Dec 30, 2004
Filed:
Dec 24, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/746311
Inventors:
Gill Heart - Tucson AZ, US
Gideon Tolkowsky - Herzliya, IL
Axel Brisken - Freemont CA, US
Joe Karratt - Millbrae CA, US
International Classification:
A61M031/00
US Classification:
604/500000, 604/022000
Abstract:
Implantable ultrasonic transducer devices and methods are provided to enhance local delivery and tissue uptake of therapeutic substances using phonophoresis. The transducers are adopted to be implanted immediately adjacent or within the target tissue to which the therapeutic substances also are delivered.

Method And Apparatus For Ultrasonically Increasing The Transportation Of Therapeutic Substances Through Tissue

US Patent:
2006005, Mar 16, 2006
Filed:
May 31, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/140845
Inventors:
Gill Heart - Dunwoody GA, US
Gideon Tolkowsky - Herzliya, IL
Axel Brisken - Freemont CA, US
International Classification:
A61H 1/00
US Classification:
601002000
Abstract:
The transportation of therapeutic substances through internal tissue is enhanced by surgically implanting an ultrasound transducer in immediate proximity to the target tissue and oriented to direct ultrasound having selected characteristics toward the target tissue. The parameters of frequency, mechanical index, pulses per cycle and pulse repetition frequency are selected within defined ranges to cause molecules to be transported at a rate and over a distance substantially greater than by natural diffusion.

Low-Profile Implantable Ultrasound Array And Method For Enhancing Drug Delivery To Tissue

US Patent:
2007023, Oct 4, 2007
Filed:
Apr 28, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/413652
Inventors:
Axel Brisken - Fremont CA, US
Joseph Karratt - Mountain View CA, US
Gill Heart - Atlanta GA, US
Assignee:
CytoDome, Inc. - Atlanta GA
International Classification:
A61B 17/20
US Classification:
604022000
Abstract:
An implantable ultrasound transducer device is defined by a plurality of coaxially, longitudinally spaced and acoustically isolated transducer elements, controlled as a phased array to define an exposure annulus within tissue disposed about the transducer array. Operation of the array is controlled to enhance transport of therapeutic substance through the tissue while avoiding thermal damage. The array is configured to enable it to be inserted into the tissue and removed from the tissue through a small surgical or natural opening.
