* Most Valuable Pollution Prevention (MVP2) Award, National Pollution Prevention Roundtable: 1998 (2nd place) to the members of the TNRCC’s Texas-Mexico Border Pollution Prevention Initiative that helped 21 participating maquiladora facilities reduce 8,572 tons of hazardous waste annually, reduce 51,590 tons of nonhazardous waste annually, conserve 31 million gallons of water annually and conserve 10.9 million kilo-watt hours of electricity annually. As a result, these facilities avoided $8.4 million (U.S. dollars) in disposal and raw material costs annually.
