Method And Apparatus For Implementing H-Arq In A Mimo Wireless Communication System

US Patent:
8059610, Nov 15, 2011
Filed:
Apr 18, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/736847
Inventors:
Yingxue Li - Exton PA, US
Guodong Zhang - Farmingdale NY, US
Donald M. Grieco - Manhassett NY, US
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04W 4/00
US Classification:
370334, 455 133, 45556211
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for implementing hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) in a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communication system are disclosed. A transmitter transmits at least two data packets via two or more antennas. If at least one of the data packets is not successfully transmitted, the transmitter retransmits the data packets while rearranging the data packets in an orthogonal spreading manner. Alternatively, the transmitter may retransmit only the unsuccessfully transmitted data packet along with a new data packet which replaces a successfully transmitted data packet. The unsuccessfully transmitted data packet may simply be repeated without changing its format. When only the unsuccessfully transmitted data packet is retransmitted along with the new data packet, the transmissions may be combined to recover the retransmitted data packet and the new data packet simultaneously.

Method And Apparatus For Efficient Configuration Of Hybrid Sub-Carrier Allocation

US Patent:
2007014, Jun 28, 2007
Filed:
Dec 8, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/608477
Inventors:
John Chen - Downingtown PA, US
Robert Olesen - Huntington NY, US
Guodong Zhang - Farmingdale NY, US
Junsung Lim - River Edge NJ, US
Arty Chandra - Manhasset Hills NY, US
Sudheer Grandhi - Mamaroneck NY, US
Assignee:
INTERDIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04B 1/38
US Classification:
455561000
Abstract:
In an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system including at least one base station and at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU), sub-carriers are allocated for data transmissions to multiple access WTRUs, where sub-carriers are allocated according to a consecutive sub-carrier allocation (CSA) type and a distributed sub-carrier allocation (DSA) type. Pilot signals with distributed pilot sub-carriers are transmitted and measured at each WTRU to obtain a channel quality metric for each pilot sub-carrier. Each WTRU sends feedback to the base station reporting channel quality based on the measured channel quality metrics. An allocation type is selected and adaptively switched according to channel variations in time and frequency domain.

Demodulation Reference Signal Based Channel State Information Feedback In Ofdm-Mimo Systems

US Patent:
2011031, Dec 29, 2011
Filed:
Jun 27, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/169529
Inventors:
Yingxue K. Li - Exton PA, US
Hongsan Sheng - Chester Springs PA, US
Guodong Zhang - Syosset NY, US
Philip J. Pietraski - Huntington Station NY, US
Assignee:
INTERDIGITAL PATENT HOLDINGS, INC. - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04B 1/38
US Classification:
375219
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for using demodulation reference signal (DM-RS) based channel state information (CSI) feedback in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing—multiple-input multiple-output (OFDM-MIMO) systems is disclosed. The wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) receives one or more resource blocks from a base station, wherein the resource blocks (RBs) include demodulating reference signals (DM-RS) and precoder information. The precoder information is sent unicast or broadcasted over a common control channel. The WTRU estimates an effective channel estimate based on the DM-RS, derives an unprecoded channel based on the effective channel and the precoder information, generates CSI feedback based on the unprecoded channel, and transmits the CSI feedback to the base station. Alternatively, the WTRU estimates an effective channel estimate based on the DM-RS, quantizes the effective channel estimate and transmits the CSI feedback to the base station.

Method And Apparatus For Efficient Operation Of An Enhanced Dedicated Channel

US Patent:
2013034, Dec 26, 2013
Filed:
Aug 30, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/014646
Inventors:
Edward L. Hepler - Malvern PA, US
Guodong Zhang - Syosset NY, US
Harry S. Smith - Malvern PA, US
Peter S. Wang - E. Setauket NY, US
Renuka Racha - Kings Park NY, US
Robert G. Gazda - Spring City PA, US
Stephen E. Terry - Northport NY, US
Jung-Lin Pan - Selden NY, US
Assignee:
InterDigital Technology Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H04W 72/04
US Classification:
370328
Abstract:
A method for processing enhanced dedicated channel data in a wireless transmit/receive unit is described. An interrupt message is received at a medium access control (MAC) layer. The interrupt message is processed by the MAC layer, including at least one of: performing grant processing, on a condition that a grant is included in the interrupt message; obtaining buffer occupancy information; performing transport format combination recovery and elimination; generating a rate request; or multiplexing multiple protocol data units (PDUs) into a single MAC-e PDU.
