Abstract:
A novel system for selectively referencing transmit data transferred from a repeater to a physical layer transmitter via a Media Independent Interface (MII), to an input clock selected depending on a mode of MII operations. A clock select input determines whether transmit data is referenced to a selected input clock or to a MII transmit clock output. An analog phase-locked loop (APLL) is supplied with the selected input clock to produce a signal for driving a wave shaper that converts the MII transmit data into a required format for 10 Mb/s operations.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a low dropout voltage regulator comprising a noise reduction architecture. The low dropout voltage regulator according to the invention comprises a comparison stage for comparing a reference voltage signal with a feedback signal and for providing a first output voltage signal in dependence thereupon. The feedback signal is obtained from a node interposed between a first resistor and a second resistor of a voltage divider. The voltage divider is interposed between an input port for receiving an input voltage signal and ground and is connected to an output terminal of the comparison stage. The first output voltage signal is then low pass filtered prior provision to a gain stage. The gain stage provides gain to the first output voltage signal prior provision to an output port. The noise reduction architecture of the low dropout voltage regulator according to the invention is highly advantageous by providing high efficiency while high frequency noise is substantially reduced.

Abstract:
All integrated circuits (ICs) require a power supply having a potential difference for use in powering internal integrated circuit components to ensure their operation. In some cases it is possible to inadvertently reverse the bias of the applied potential difference, resulting in damage to the IC. For propagating large currents big pass transistors are used within the circuit. Reverse bias protection for these ICs is achieved by utilizing either a protection transistor in parallel with the big pass transistor, or a diode within the big pass transistor for protecting both analog and digital ICs.

A disk drive write head having in consecutive layers a bottom pole, a write gap layer, a first insulation layer, a coil, a second insulation layer having an insulation layer boundary, and a top pole on the second insulation layer. The top pole includes a main body portion and a nose portion and has a flare line at the location where the nose portion expands to become the main body portion. The top pole further includes a curved contour portion having a contour boundary, a tip which terminates in an air bearing surface, and a flat portion on the top surface of the nose extending between the tip and the contour boundary. The insulation layer boundary is recessed from the air bearing surface such that the top pole contour boundary lies substantially close to the flare line, thus producing a top pole top surface which is substantially flat.

Abstract:
A T-shaped pole tip portion of an upper pole of a write element for a magnetic disk drive is provided. One end of the pole tip portion, constituting the bottom of the “T,” forms a narrow nose segment at an air bearing surface, while a wing segment at the opposite end of the pole tip portion constitutes the cross-bar top of the “T. ” A transition segment extends between the nose segment and the wing segment. A yoke portion of the upper pole includes a surface that is parallel to the air bearing surface and recessed therefrom by a PR depth. The transition segment does not widen significantly until after the PR depth, accordingly, the wing segment is recessed from the air bearing surface by more than the PR depth.
