Abstract:
The instant invention relates generally to the use of IL-8 as a biomarker in septic shock patients as an indicator of the likelihood of survival. The instant invention further relates to the use of IL-8 as a biomarker in septic shock patients for the selection of appropriate therapies. The instant invention further relates to the use of IL-8 as a biomarker for the purposes of structuring, conducting, or evaluating clinical trials or data from clinical trials.

Metallothionein As An Early Biomarker For Death Secondary To Septic Shock And As A Novel Therapeutic Target For Septic Shock

US Patent:
2009013, May 28, 2009
Filed:
Apr 19, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/912091
Inventors:

424641, 435 6, 514494, 424643
Abstract:
A set of signature genes that predict the severity of septic shock, as well as methods of diagnosing and treating septic shock. The genes and methods are particularly useful for the identification of individuals who are at a high risk of death from septic shock.

Fluid Sensing Devices With Concentration Regulation

US Patent:
2018025, Sep 13, 2018
Filed:
Oct 23, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/769435
Inventors:
- Cincinnati OH, US
Hector Wong - Cincinnati OH, US
Kevin Plaxco - Santa Barbara CA, US
Jacob A. Bertrand - Norwood OH, US
Assignee:
Eccrine Systems, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61B 10/00
G01N 33/487
A61B 5/145
A61B 5/1477
A61B 5/00
G01N 27/327
G01N 27/40
Abstract:
Embodiments of the disclosed invention provide devices and methods for buffering fluid samples to enable accurate concentration measurements of analytes by salinity-sensitive or pH-sensitive sensors. The buffering capabilities of the device include the ability to control the salinity and pH of a fluid sample, specifically, through the management of solutes such as salts, H, other ions, and other solutes, that are found in sweat, biofluids, or other fluids. The purpose of such control is to enhance particular fluid sensing device applications by improving detectability of the targeted analyte, or improving performance of analyte sensors. Some embodiments also include components to enable sample concentration to enhance the measurement of low-concentration solutes found in the fluid.

Persevere-Ii: Redefining The Pediatric Sepsis Biomarker Risk Model With Septic Shock Phenotype

US Patent:
2016035, Dec 8, 2016
Filed:
Jun 2, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/171418
Inventors:
- Cincinnati OH, US
Hector R. Wong - Cincinnati OH, US
International Classification:
G01N 33/49
A61M 1/16
A61M 1/34
C12Q 1/06
A61M 1/36
Abstract:
The methods disclosed herein relate to an improved tool incorporating platelet count into a multi-biomarker based outcome risk stratification model for evaluating mortality risk in pediatric patients having sepsis. The methods described here are useful for treating sepsis, for point of care clinical decision support, for stratifying septic shock patients based on baseline mortality risk, and for clinical trial design, among other uses.

Use Of Interleukin-27 As A Diagnostic Biomarker For Bacterial Infection In Critically Ill Patients

US Patent:
2015023, Aug 20, 2015
Filed:
Aug 30, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/424919
Inventors:
- Cincinnati OH, US
Hector R. Wong - Cincinnati OH, US
Assignee:
Children's Hospital Medical Center - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
G01N 33/68
G01N 33/74
Abstract:
Embodiments of the invention are directed to methods of diagnosing bacterial infection in a critically ill patient. The methods include obtaining a sample from the patient and determining the patient's level of IL-27 expression. Embodiments of the invention are also directed to methods that include determining both the patient's levels of IL-27 expression and PCT expression and using the combined result to provide a diagnosis of bacterial infection in a critically ill patient.
