On The Fly Server For Modifying Data Characteristics For Client-Server Network Applications

US Patent:
6658167, Dec 2, 2003
Filed:
Jan 31, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/240470
Inventors:
Daniel T. L. Lee - Los Altos CA
Ho John Lee - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06K 903
US Classification:
382305, 382311, 382306, 709246, 709219, 709217
Abstract:
The present invention provides a computer implemented method and apparatus for modifying data to be used by a client application in a client/server network. The steps for implementing the present invention include: transmitting information to the server computer from the client computer, wherein the transmitted information defines the intended use of data in a client application stored on the client computer; based on the transmitted information, modifying the data to optimize the data for its intended use by the client application, wherein such modification is performed by the server computer before transmitting the modified data to the client application. In the preferred embodiment, the modifications to the data are made as the request is made from the server application. The data modifications are performed by the server computer and are based on information about the client applications intended use of the data. Because the computations are made on the fly, the modified data files may be customized instantaneously.

Method And System For Serving Data Files Compressed In Accordance With Tunable Parameters

US Patent:
6779040, Aug 17, 2004
Filed:
Aug 27, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/384827
Inventors:
Daniel T. L. Lee - Los Altos CA
Ho John Lee - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P. - Houston TX
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
709247, 382250, 382280, 382305
Abstract:
A method and system for transferring data files from a sever entity, such as a server computer, to a client entity, such as a client process running on a remote client computer. The data files are stored in a frequency domain form by the server entity. The client entity can specify certain characteristics for the transfer that may be represented as one or more parameters. Parameters may include a compression ratio and certain data enhancements. Default or computed parameters may be used by the server entity when no client-specified parameters are available. Upon receiving a request for a data file, the server entity retrieves the frequency domain form of the data file, quantizes frequency domain coefficients included in the frequency domain form of the data file according to the parameters, compresses the quantized frequency domain coefficients into a compressed data file, and transfers the compressed data file to the client entity.

Method And System For Accessing A Collection Of Images In A Database

US Patent:
2003008, May 1, 2003
Filed:
Oct 31, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/984810
Inventors:
Qian Lin - Santa Clara CA, US
Ullas Gargi - Mountain View CA, US
Ho Lee - Palo Alto CA, US
International Classification:
G06F007/00
US Classification:
707/104100
Abstract:
A method and system are disclosed for accessing a collection of images in a database. In accordance with exemplary embodiments of the present invention, each of the images is sorted into one of a plurality of time-based clusters. A weighted quality metric is used to assign to each image a quality number as a function of an image analysis heuristic. A representative image is automatically selected from each time-based cluster based on the quality number.

Image Sensor With Shaking Compensation

US Patent:
2011010, May 12, 2011
Filed:
Nov 11, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/616583
Inventors:
Ho Seong Lee - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
OMNIVISION TECHNOLOGIES, INC. - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
H04N 5/228
US Classification:
3482081, 3482084, 348E05031
Abstract:
A camera includes a main pixel array, one or more shaking detection pixel groups, and logic circuitry. The main pixel array can generate image frames of an image at an image frame rate. The one or more shaking detection pixel groups can generate shaking detection data where one or more pixels of the first shaking detection pixel group are sampled at a rate that is faster than the image frame rate. The logic circuitry can evaluate the shaking detection data to select a frame of the generated image frames after receiving a picture taking signal.

Abstract:
Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for searching microblog entries. The microblog entries may be generated through a single microblog website or across multiple microblog sites. Upon receiving a search input, a series of microblog entries responsive to the search input may be displayed to the user. The displayed microblog entries may be the most recently generated microblog entries that are responsive to the search input. In another embodiment, the microblog entries returned are a best match to the search criteria, which may be based on a user authority score for a user that drafted a microblog entry and additional characteristics of the microblog entry.

System And Method For Generating Social Summaries

US Patent:
2012016, Jun 28, 2012
Filed:
Dec 27, 2010

Presenting Search Results Annotated With Social Network Connection Information

US Patent:
2013009, Apr 18, 2013
Filed:
Dec 30, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/341301
Inventors:
Lawrence H. Kim - San Jose CA, US
Seungphil Oh - Pusan, KR
Satish Kumar Musukula - San Jose CA, US
Ho John Lee - Palo Alto CA, US
Assignee:
MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Redmond WA
International Classification:

Abstract:
Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for presenting results of search queries with indications that at least a portion of such results has been endorsed by the user and/or social network connections of the user, are provided. Upon receipt of a search query, Web search results satisfying the query are determined. Satisfying search results that have been endorsed by the requesting user and/or one or more social network connections of the requesting user are identified. Upon presentation of the search results on the SERP, those results that were identified as having been endorsed by the requesting user and/or one or more social network connections of the requesting user are annotated as such. In this way, the requesting user may be able to more readily identify personally relevant results as the annotated results have been indicated to be preferences of the user and/or his or her social network connections.

Sustained Data Protection

US Patent:
2013018, Jul 18, 2013
Filed:
Jan 13, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/350426
Inventors:
Sean Andrew Suchter - Los Altos Hills CA, US
Ho John Lee - Palo Alto CA, US
Charles Carson - Cupertino CA, US
Scott Banachowski - Mountain View CA, US
Yuri Romanenko - Redwood City CA, US
Eric Wai Ho Lau - Mountain View CA, US
Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 21/20
G06F 21/24
US Classification:
726 29
Abstract:
Among other things, one or more techniques and/or systems are provided for sustained data protection. In particular, a data protector may define a set of access levels associated with content within data using a set of access policies (e.g., a partial access level to inventory data for an inventory server, a full access level to inventory data and billing data for a shopping website server, etc.). The data protector may secure (e.g., encrypt) the data to create protected data, so that clients may be unable to access content of the protected data without obtaining access through the data protector. In this way, the data protector may selectively provide clients with access to content within the protected data according to respective access levels for the different clients (e.g., access to inventory data, but not billing data, may be provided to the inventory server by the data protector).
