Jul 11, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/167679
Inventors:
Howard D. Simpson - Irvine CA
Assignee:
Union Oil Company of California - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
C10G 1700
US Classification:
208216R
Abstract:
A hydrotreating catalyst comprises molybdenum, nickel, and phosphorus components supported on gamma alumina precalcined at a temperature of at least 1375. degree. F.

Hydroprocessing Catalyst, Its Use, And Method Of Preparation

US Patent:
5389595, Feb 14, 1995
Filed:
Sep 30, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/130109
Inventors:
Howard D. Simpson - Irvine CA
Suheil F. Abdo - Placentia CA
Assignee:
Union Oil Company of California - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
B01J 2104
US Classification:
502315
Abstract:
A catalyst containing an overlayer of a catalytic promoter on a porous refractory support containing an underbedded Group VIII metal-containing component. The catalyst is prepared by sequential incorporation of the Group VIII metal followed by the additional catalytic promoter component, usually a Group VIB metal, with the porous refractory oxide support. The catalyst has a MoO. sub. 3 /NiO weight ratio less than 6 to 1 and more than 4 weight percent of NiO. The catalyst is especially useful for simultaneous hydrodenitrogenation and hydrodesulfurization of a gas oil, particularly when the refractory oxide support has a narrow pore size distribution.

Desulfurization Process And Catalyst

US Patent:
4097413, Jun 27, 1978
Filed:
Dec 17, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/751383
Inventors:
Howard D. Simpson - Irvine CA
Assignee:
Union Oil Company of California - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
B01J 2104
B01J 2388
US Classification:
252465
Abstract:
Highly active cobalt-molybdenum-alumina desulfurization catalysts containing 18-30 weight-percent of MoO. sub. 3 are prepared by first comulling boehmite alumina with aqueous ammonium molybdate solution, drying the resulting mixture, then comulling with a soluble cobalt salt and water, thereafter forming the resulting mixture into extrudates, and finally calcining the extrudates under controlled temperature conditions correlated with the molybdenum content of the catalyst so as to preserve adequate surface area and prevent the formation of large crystallites of cobalt molybdate. This method of preparation permits effective utilization of molybdenum in amounts up to about 30 weight-percent MoO. sub. 3, a result not obtainable by conventional impregnation techniques.

Hydrocarbon Conversion Process

US Patent:
5494568, Feb 27, 1996
Filed:
Jan 31, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/381585

Suheil F. Abdo - Placentia CA
Assignee:
UOP - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
C10G 4904
US Classification:
208 46
Abstract:

Appl. No.:
6/038334
Inventors:
Howard D. Simpson - Irvine CA
Assignee:
Union Oil Company of California - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
B01J 2714
C10G 4504
C10G 1700
US Classification:

Oxidation Process

US Patent:
4743353, May 10, 1988
Filed:
Feb 3, 1986
Appl. No.:
6/825201
Inventors:
Pauline B. Ting - Brea CA
Howard D. Simpson - Irvine CA
Assignee:
Union Oil Company of California - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
C07C 3700
US Classification:
208 3
Abstract:
A hydrocarbon conversion catalyst containing a Group VIB metal on a porous refractory oxide is prepared by impregnating support particles with a solution containing Group VIB metal components and citric acid, followed by drying and calcining. The catalyst is useful for promoting a number of hydrocarbon conversion reactions, particularly those involving hydrogenative desulfurization, demetallization and denitrogenation.

Reforming And Related Processes

Cobalt-Molybdenum-Alumina Desulfurization Catalyst

US Patent:
4179410, Dec 18, 1979
Filed:
Jan 3, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/866282
Inventors:
Howard D. Simpson - Irvine CA
Assignee:
Union Oil Company of California - Los Angeles CA
International Classification:
B01J 2104
B01J 2388
US Classification:
252465
Abstract:
Novel, high surface area cobalt-molybdenum-alumina desulfurization catalysts containing 20-30 weight-percent of MoO. sub. 3, and being free of X-ray-detectable cobalt molybdate crystallites, are disclosed. A preferred method of preparation thereof involves first comulling boehmite alumina with aqueous ammonium molybdate solution, drying the resulting mixture, then comulling with a soluble cobalt salt and water, thereafter forming the resulting mixture into extrudates, and finally calcining the extrudates under controlled temperature conditions correlated with the molybdenum content of the catalyst so as to preserve adequate surface area and prevent the formation of large crystallites of cobalt molybdate.
