The multidisciplinary “Welcome Discovery Team” received the Smithsonian Secretary's Award for Excellence in the Collaborative Spirit category. The team, comprised of staff from across the museum, was in charge of all aspects of the arrival and transfer of space shuttle Discovery from NASA to the Smithsonian in April 2012.
