Light Standard For Microscopy

US Patent:
6969843, Nov 29, 2005
Filed:
Oct 17, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/273332
Inventors:
James M. Beach - Slidell LA, US
Robert A. Ross - Charlottesville VA, US
Josef K. Hudson - Charlottesville VA, US
International Classification:
G01J001/04
US Classification:
250228, 250205, 356230, 356236, 362276
Abstract:
The disclosed light standard system provides flat field illumination through the use of an integrating light chamber which is in communication with a microprocessor. The light chamber has at least one high performance light source, such as LED's, recessed within the walls and positioned to prevent light from directly exiting the chamber. A photosensor monitors multiple parameters within the chamber and interacts with the microprocessor to control intensity, temperature and wavelengths. The lights standard operates in benchmark, ratio light, linearity and transient response modes with all parameters being programmable and storable within said microprocessor.

Automatic Registration Of Images

US Patent:
7774036, Aug 10, 2010
Filed:
Jun 7, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/146278
Inventors:
Gisli Hreinn Halldorsson - Reykjavik, IS
Einar Stefansson - Reykjavik, IS
Jon Atli Benediktsson - Reykjavik, IS
Robert Arnar Karlsson - Reykjavik, IS
Sveinn Hakon Hardarson - Reykjavik, IS
Thor Eysteinsson - Reykjavik, IS
James M. Beach - Slidell LA, US
Assignee:
Oxymap EHF - Reykjavik
International Classification:
A61B 5/1455
US Classification:
600323
Abstract:
The example embodiments relate to a system for automatically evaluating oxygen saturation of the optic nerve and retina, including an image capturing system which includes a fundus camera, a four wavelengths beam splitter, a digital image capturing device, a computer system, and image processing software for registering and analyzing multi-spectral images of the retina, and for evaluating oxygen saturation level.

Method For Evaluating Relative Oxygen Saturation In Body Tissues

US Patent:
7949387, May 24, 2011
Filed:
Mar 18, 2005
Appl. No.:
10/593175
Inventors:
Bahram Khoobehi - Metairie LA, US
James M. Beach - Slidell LA, US
Assignee:
Board of Supervisors of Louisiana State University And Agricultural and Mechanical College - Baton Rouge LA
International Classification:
A61B 6/00
US Classification:
600476, 600322, 600323, 600475
Abstract:
A new method was discovered to analyze continuous spectral curves to determine relative hemoglobin oxygen saturation, using spectral curves collected from a continuous range of wavelengths from about 530 nm to about 584 nm, including spectra from transmitted or reflected light. Using isosbestic points and curve areas, a relative saturation index was calculated. With this method, noninvasive, in vivo measurement of relative oxygen saturation was made using light reflected from blood vessels in the eye and to map and measure relative changes in hemoglobin oxygen saturation in primate retinal vessels and optic nerve head in response to controlled changes in inspired oxygen and intraocular pressure (IOP). This method could also measure oxygen saturation from other blood vessels that reflect light sufficient to give a clear spectra from the blood hemoglobin. Changes in blood oxygen saturation can be monitored with this method for early detection of disease.

Spectral-Spatial Imaging Device

US Patent:
2021007, Mar 11, 2021
Filed:
Nov 16, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/949830
Inventors:
- Minneapolis MN, US
Swati Sudhakar More - Eagan MN, US
James Melvin Beach - Auburn AL, US
International Classification:
G01J 3/28
G01J 3/02
Abstract:
In general, an imaging system to synchronously record a spatial image and a spectral image of a portion of the spatial image is described. In some examples, a beam splitter of the imaging system splits an optical beam, obtained from a viewing device, into a first split beam directed by the imaging system to a spatial camera and a second split beam directed by the imaging system to the entrance slit of an imaging spectrograph that is coupled to a spectral camera. An electronic apparatus synchronously triggers the spatial camera and the spectral camera to synchronously record a spatial image and a spectral image, respectively.
