Method And Apparatus For Equalizing Video Transmitted Over Twisted Pair Cable

US Patent:
7047556, May 16, 2006
Filed:
Jun 8, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/877984
Inventors:
Gary Dean Cole - Corona CA, US
Manfred Schneider - Costa Mesa CA, US
Art Garcia - San Dimas CA, US
Mike A. Andrews - Anaheim CA, US
Assignee:
RGB Systems, Inc. - Anaheim CA
International Classification:
H04N 7/16
US Classification:
725149, 348914, 348613, 348621, 333 28 R
Abstract:
A apparatus and apparatus for compensating for video insertion loss due to transmission over long twisted pair cable lines is presented. Transmission of video over twisted pair cable is advantageous because of its superior cost advantage over coaxial cable. However, twisted pair cables have significant loss characteristics at the higher frequencies (i. e. , broadband) compared to coaxial cables. At a transmitter station, the video signal is amplified in the high frequency region for possible skin effect losses thereby brute forcing the high frequency components to the receiving station. At the receiver station, the video signal is further compensated for diffusion line and skin effect losses. The total skin effect compensation applied in both the transmitter and receiver stations is such that the square root of frequency characteristics of skin effect losses is compensated for. Thus, at the receiving station, the high frequency compensation added at the transmitter to brute force the high frequency components to the receiving station may be removed if found excessive.

Multi-Element, Stick-Slip Piezo Motor

US Patent:
8593033, Nov 26, 2013
Filed:
Jun 11, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/814309
Inventors:
William Culpi - Lake Forest CA, US
Manfred Schneider - Costa Mesa CA, US
Assignee:
Micronix USA - Irvine CA
International Classification:
H01L 41/08
US Classification:
31032302, 310328
Abstract:
A stick-slip piezo motor. A piezo housing holds at least two piezo elements. The piezo elements are both rigidly connected to the piezo housing. At the end of each of the piezo elements is a piezo friction element. Each of the piezo friction elements is in friction contact with a moving friction element. While oscillating between a stick phase and a slip phase, both of the friction elements operate in conjunction to move the moving friction element in a desired travel direction. The piezo elements oscillate out of phase such that when one of the oscillating piezo elements is operating in the slip phase and moving in a direction opposite to the desired travel direction, the other oscillation piezo element is operating in the stick phase and is moving in the travel direction in order to counteract and overcome unwanted dragging of the moving piezo element.

Method And Apparatus For Equalizing Video Transmitted Over Twisted Pair Cable

US Patent:
2006026, Nov 30, 2006
Filed:
May 16, 2006
Appl. No.:

Inventors:
Gary Cole - Corona CA, US

Assignee:
RGB Systems, Inc. - Anaheim CA
International Classification:
H04N 11/02
H04N 7/12
H04N 9/64
H04N 5/14
H04N 11/04
H04N 5/44
US Classification:
348398100, 348397100, 348553000, 348577000
Abstract:
A apparatus and apparatus for compensating for video insertion loss due to transmission over long twisted pair cable lines is presented. Transmission of video over twisted pair cable is advantageous because of its superior cost advantage over coaxial cable. However, twisted pair cables have significant loss characteristics at the higher frequencies (i.e., broadband) compared to coaxial cables. Additionally, compensation is included to adjust for skew that may occur because of irregularities between the various twisted pairs used to transmit the individual video components. Non-minimum phase type filters are used to inject delay into the faster arriving signals so that they may coincide in phase with later arriving signals resulting in a true reproduction of the video.

Silent Stick-Slip Piezo Motor

US Patent:
2020040, Dec 24, 2020
Filed:
Jun 22, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/449388
Inventors:
Manfred Schneider - Santa Ana CA, US
International Classification:
H02N 2/06
H02N 2/02
Abstract:
A stick-slip piezo motor. At least one voltage source is connected to a piezo motor. The piezo motor has at least one oscillating piezo element and at least one moving friction element connected to the oscillating piezo element. The moving friction element moves in a desired travel direction. A computer is programmed to control the voltage source to deliver voltage to the piezo motor at a predetermined frequency and amplitude to control the speed of the piezo motor. The computer is programmed to hold the frequency constant while varying the amplitude to adjust the speed of the piezo motor. In a preferred embodiment the computer is programmed to hold the frequency constant at an ultrasonic frequency. In another preferred embodiment the computer is programmed to hold the frequency constant at a value of 15 kHz or higher.
