Apparatus For Raising A Spring Arm On A Trailer Hitch

US Patent:
7934742, May 3, 2011
Filed:
Jul 28, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/181263
Inventors:
Jed Anderson - Lindon UT, US
Fred P. Smith - Alpine UT, US
Assignee:
Progress Mfg., Inc. - Provo UT
International Classification:
B60D 1/34
US Classification:
2804061, 2804051
Abstract:
An apparatus for raising a spring arm of a trailer hitch. The apparatus may include a lift, such as a jack, for attaching to a tongue of a trailer. A link member may be pivotally attached to the lift. The link member may also be pivotally attached to a bracket which may be attached to the spring arm. A brace member may be attached to the link member on an end opposite the bracket. As the lift raises the link member, the link member may pivot about the brace member such that movement of the bracket may be amplified as compared to movement of the lift. Moreover, lifting of the spring arm can be easily accomplished.

Attachment For A Trailer Hitch Bracket

US Patent:
7967320, Jun 28, 2011
Filed:
Aug 24, 2007
Appl. No.:
12/072805
Inventors:
Jed K. Anderson - Lindon UT, US
Matthew C. Johnson - Lehi UT, US
Assignee:
Progress Mfg, Inc. - Provo UT
International Classification:
B60D 1/32
B62D 53/00
US Classification:
2804551, 2804051
Abstract:
An accessory for trailer hitch systems having components for equalizing loads and reducing trailer sway. The accessory includes a jacket for attaching to a bracket that supports a load equalizing spring bar. The bracket may include a lateral extending portion for supporting the spring bar. The jacket may include a socket for receiving the lateral extending portion of the bracket, such that the jacket may be removably installed on the bracket. The jacket may include a contact surface for contacting the spring bar. The contact surface may include a different coefficient of friction or a different shape, as compared to the lateral extending portion of the bracket, such that movement of the spring bar with respect to the bracket may be altered as compared to conditions in which the spring bar is supported on the bracket without the jacket.

Dual-Attachment System For A Sway Control Hitch

US Patent:
8628107, Jan 14, 2014
Filed:
Jul 1, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/829230
Inventors:
Jason Robert Harper - Provo UT, US
Raymond L. Conger - Orem UT, US
Joshua A. Jones - Provo UT, US
Jed Anderson - Provo UT, US
Assignee:
Progress Mfg. Inc. - Provo UT
International Classification:
B60D 1/02
US Classification:
280515, 280504
Abstract:
A trailer hitch system for equalizing trailer loads and reducing trailer sway. The trailer hitch system may include spring bars that may be attached to a hitch head using a trunnion style connection. The spring bars may be attached to the trailer using rigid brackets that reduce swinging of the spring bars. The rigid brackets having a plurality of contact points may include an upward extending portion for attaching to the trailer tongue, and a lateral extending portion for receiving the spring bars thereupon. The rigid brackets may include a spacing member and an attachment member.

Trailer Hitch Head And Method Of Manufacturing

US Patent:
2006004, Mar 9, 2006
Filed:
Sep 24, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/950144
Inventors:
Jed Anderson - Lindon UT, US
Kenneth Mauerman - Orem UT, US
International Classification:
B62D 53/00
B60D 1/00
US Classification:
280405100, 280511000
Abstract:
A hitch head is disclosed as part of a trailer hitch. The hitch head may include an upper surface having an opening for receiving a stem of a hitch ball. A back side of the hitch head may include a pair of ridges for defining an area for receiving an attaching member for attaching the trailer hitch to a towing vehicle. The hitch head may also include a pair of weld recesses between the ridges for defining channels for receiving welds. The ridges and the recesses on the hitch head allow the attaching member to be positioned and welded to the hitch head in a more time efficient manner. The ridges and recess are also configured to reduce the amount of weld material required to weld the attaching member to the hitch head without reducing the strength of the welds.

Sway Control Hitch

US Patent:
2008012, May 29, 2008
Filed:
Aug 23, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/895289

Abstract:
A trailer hitch system for equalizing trailer loads and reducing trailer sway. The trailer hitch system may include spring bars that may be attached to a hitch head using a trunnion style connection. The spring bars may be attached to the trailer using rigid brackets that reduce swinging of the spring bars. The rigid brackets may include an upward extending portion for attaching to the trailer tongue, and a lateral extending portion for receiving the spring bars thereupon. The brackets may have a contact surface on the lateral extending portion that may be free from a coating such that a metal on metal contact is made between the spring bars and the brackets. Portions of the brackets beyond the contact surface may be covered with a protective coating.
