Jan 27, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/238960
Inventors:
Jeffrey P. Hughes - Lawrenceville GA
Alan J. Schlenz - Lawrenceville GA
Assignee:
Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. - Lawrenceville GA
International Classification:
B60B 3500
US Classification:
725130, 725128, 725149, 725150, 455 303, 333126, 333129
Abstract:
A cable television tap ( ) for receiving a forward signal including an information signal and a power signal. The tap ( ) includes a diplex filter ( ) for receiving the forward signal and for separating the information signal from the power signal at outputs of the diplex filter ( ) and a plurality of subscriber ports ( ) coupled to an output of the diplex filter ( ) for receiving the information signal such that the information signal can be accessed at each of the plurality of subscriber ports ( ). The tap ( ) also includes a removable port device ( ) coupled to the other output of the diplex filter ( ) for receiving the power signal, and the port device ( ) has a connector ( ) so that the power signal can be accessed. According to the present invention, when the port device ( ) is coupled to the tap ( ), the information signal can only be accessed at the subscriber ports ( ), and the power signal can only be accessed at the connector ( ) of the port device ( ). This provides a way to separately transmit the information signal and the power signal over the subscriber property to the subscriber.

Abstract:
A bypass switch ( ) for use in an electronic device ( ) includes a substrate ( ) on which first, second, and third terminals ( ) are mounted and an electrically conductive primary element ( ), having first and second opposing ends, mounted to a bottom surface of the substrate ( ) and electrically coupled to the first terminal ( ) at its first end and to the second terminal ( ) at its second end. The switch ( ) also includes an electrically conductive bypass element ( ), having first and second opposing ends, mounted to the bottom surface of the substrate ( ) and electrically coupled to the third terminal ( ) at its first end and vertically aligned, at its second end, with the second end of the primary element ( ). A switch actuator ( ) is mechanically coupled to the bypass element ( ), extends through the substrate ( ), and has an actuating surface ( ) accessible at a top surface, opposite the bottom surface, of the substrate ( ). A downward force exerted upon the actuating surface ( ) of the actuator ( ) forces the second end of the bypass element ( ) away from the second end of the primary element ( ), thereby electrically decoupling the bypass element ( ) and the third terminal ( ) from the first and second terminals ( ).

Electrically And Environmentally Sealed Mechanical Control Device For An Electronic Device

US Patent:
2002007, Jun 27, 2002
Filed:
Dec 21, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/747536
Inventors:
David Wallis - Atlanta GA, US
Jeffrey Hughes - Lawrenceville GA, US
Khalid Kidari - Loganville GA, US
Alan Schlenz - Snellville GA, US
International Classification:
H05K009/00
US Classification:
174/03500R
Abstract:
A device including a housing () for enclosing electronic components and having an aperture therethrough. The device further includes a control element () and is inserted through the aperture. The control element () has a control end and a mating end, wherein when the control element () is inserted into the aperture of the housing (), the mating end mates with an electronic component and is controlled by the control end. A sealing element () is placed around a groove () of the control element () for sealing the control element (), after insertion into the housing (), from the surrounding environment elements; and then a retaining means () is placed around the control element () on a region of the control element () that extends into an interior of the housing (), wherein the retaining means () exerts force onto the housing (), thereby securing the control element () within the housing ().

Automatic Projection Calibration

US Patent:
2008019, Aug 14, 2008
Filed:
Apr 11, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/911185
Inventors:
Peter W. Hildebrandt - Duluth GA, US
Scott Wilson - Kailua-Kona HI, US
James D. Watson - Duluth GA, US
Brent W. Anderson - Portland OR, US
Neal A. Hofmann - Atlanta GA, US
Brand C. Kvavle - Tigard OR, US
Jeffrey P. Hughes - Sugar Hill GA, US
Joseph Hubert - Portland OR, US
Assignee:
Polyvision Corporation - Suwannee GA
International Classification:
G09G 5/10
G09G 3/36
US Classification:
345173
Abstract:
The present invention is a whiteboard method and system () having automated projection calibration that does not require user interaction. The method and system are accomplished by placing sensors () beneath a target surface and projecting a projected pattern to discover a geometric correspondence between the target surface and the projecting device. Optical sensors () are preferably employed to sense the presence of the projected pattern on the whiteboard. The input data is used with a mapping function or translation matrix for converting whiteboard coordinates to screen coordinates, which are then used for mapping the coordinates to a cursor position. When the geometry of the whiteboard surface is known, and the locations of the optical sensors within this geometry are known, the information about which projector pixels illuminate which sensor can be used to calibrate the projecting device with respect to the whiteboard.

Inventors:
Jeffrey P. Hughes - Lawrenceville GA
Joel P. Jenkins - Lawrenceville GA
William G. Mahoney - Suwanee GA
Bart F. Spriester - Atlanta GA
Joshua C. Yi - Norcross GA
Assignee:
Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. - Lawrenceville GA
International Classification:
H03H 700
US Classification:
307119
Abstract:
A bypass switch (155) for use in an electronic device (125) includes a substrate (205) on which first, second, and third terminals (215, 220, 235) are mounted and an electrically conductive primary element (250), having first and second opposing ends, mounted to a bottom surface of the substrate (205) and electrically coupled to the first terminal (215) at its first end and to the second terminal (220) at its second end. The switch (155) also includes an electrically conductive bypass element (255), having first and second opposing ends, mounted to the bottom surface of the substrate (205) and electrically coupled to the third terminal (235) at its first end and vertically aligned, at its second end, with the second end of the primary element (250). A switch actuator (225) is mechanically coupled to the bypass element (255), extends through the substrate (205), and has an actuating surface (290) accessible at a top surface, opposite the bottom surface, of the substrate (205). A downward force exerted upon the actuating surface (290) of the actuator (225) forces the second end of the bypass element (255) away from the second end of the primary element (250), thereby electrically decoupling the bypass element (255) and the third terminal (235) from the first and second terminals (215, 220).

Electrical Connector Including Spring Mechanism For Covering Leads In Open Position

US Patent:
6106311, Aug 22, 2000
Filed:
Apr 9, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/289029
Inventors:
Jeffrey P. Hughes - Lawrenceville GA
Assignee:
Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. - Norcross GA
International Classification:
H01R 1344
US Classification:
439141
