High Molecular Weight Polymers As Viscosity Modifiers

US Patent:
2013030, Nov 14, 2013
Filed:
May 7, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/888808
Inventors:
Robert Jude Sutherland - Houston TX, US
Zhou Xu - Katy TX, US
Assignee:
Shell Oil Company - Houston TX
International Classification:
C10M 143/00
US Classification:
508591, 508110
Abstract:
A lubricating composition comprises a base oil and between 10 ppm and 1000 ppm by mass of a viscosity modifier, the viscosity modifier comprising a polymer having a number average molecular weight greater than 500,000. The polymer's side-chains may be branched or unbranched. The polymer is preferably selected from the group consisting of polyolefin, poly alpha olefin, poly internal olefin, ethylene-propylene copolymers, ethylene-propylene-diene copolymers, ethylene-propylene-acrylate copolymers, ethylene-propylene-methacrylate copolymers, ethylene-propylene-aromatic copolymers, ethylene-propylene-diene-acrylate copolymers, ethylene-propylene-diene-methacrylate copolymers, and combinations thereof.

Pre-Coated Surfaces For Analysis

US Patent:
2012002, Jan 26, 2012
Filed:
May 20, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/068802
Inventors:
Paul E. Laibinis - Nashville TN, US
Richard Caprioli - Nashville TN, US
Zhou Xu - Nashville TN, US
Junhai Yang - Nashville TN, US
Assignee:
Vanderbilt University - Nashville TN
International Classification:
B41M 5/00
B05D 7/14
B05D 1/32
B05D 5/00
B05D 1/36
US Classification:
4281951, 427256, 427258, 427282, 427287
Abstract:
Sample preparation can be a tedious and time consuming task. For example, MALDI imaging of tissue samples can require the tedious process of hand or robotically spotting solutions containing chemical species referred to as “matrix” onto a tissue sample prior its mass spectral analysis. Provided is a process for preparing a sample comprising immersing a solid support that has a surface comprising a first part that is more hydrophilic than a second part into a target compound solution, wherein the target compound is deposited primarily onto the more hydrophilic part; and/or applying and evaporating the target compound solution onto the substrate to produce the pre-coated substrate. A tissue or other sample may then be placed on the substrate for analysis.

Lubricating Composition

US Patent:
2017000, Jan 12, 2017
Filed:
Dec 22, 2014
Appl. No.:
15/107122
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Mark Clift SOUTHBY - Chester, Cheshire, GB
Zhou XU - Katy TX, US
International Classification:
C10M 169/04
Abstract:
Lubricating composition for use in the crankcase of an engine comprising: (i) a base oil comprising at least one monoester or a mixture of monoesters, wherein said monoester or mixture of monoesters has a kinematic viscosity at 100 C. of not more than 4 mm/s, a viscosity index of at least 130 and a Noack evaporation loss of not more than 20 wt %; and (ii) a polymeric viscosity index improvers selected from (a) one or more comb polymers; (b) a poly(meth)acrylate polymer having 1 to 70 mol % of one or more (meth)acrylate structural units represented by formula (1) below (1) wherein Ris a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, and Ris a straight chain or branched hydrocarbon group having not less than 16 carbon atoms; (c) styrene-diene hydrogenated copolymers; and (d) mixtures thereof. The lubricating composition of the present invention provides improved fuel economy properties.

Lubricating Composition

US Patent:
2016001, Jan 14, 2016
Filed:
Mar 6, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/772417
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Mark Clift SOUTHBY - Ince, Chester, GB
Zhou XU - Katy TX, US
International Classification:
C10M 129/68
C10L 1/02
Abstract:
Use of a comb polymer for reducing the loss in viscosity of a lubricating composition for the crankcase of an internal combustion engine, wherein the internal combustion engine is fuelled by a fuel composition comprising a fatty acid alkyl ester.
