Cleaning Apparatus For An Electrophotographic Printing Machine

US Patent:
5416572, May 16, 1995
Filed:
Jan 3, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/176990
Inventors:
Steven E. Kolb - Penfield NY
John C. DeMott - Rochester NY
Carl F. Oresick - Rochester NY
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
G03G 2100
US Classification:
355299
Abstract:
An agglomerate spot cleaning blade is supported to cleaning housing, thereby forming a substantially enclosed chamber, in sealing engagement with respect to the photoreceptor surface. Contact is maintained between a cleaning brush, located within a cleaning housing, and a blade, whereby rotating brush fibers remove accumulated agglomerate debris particles from the blade. A substantially air-flow free environment is maintained for removal of residual toner and debris from the photoreceptor surface and the blade, without the need for a separate vacuum/air removal system assist, or a separate manual maintenance step.

Horizontal Image Shift By Shifting To A Slower Copying Rate

US Patent:
4980723, Dec 25, 1990
Filed:
Nov 17, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/437705
Inventors:
Mark H. Buddendeck - Macedon NY
John W. Daughton - Rochester NY
John C. DeMott - Rochester NY
Robert M. Harwood - Farmington NY
Gary L. Hutchinson - Fairport NY
Khalid M. Rabb - Webster NY
Robert L. Sklut - Rochester NY
Irwin Wagman - Pittsford NY
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
G03G 2100
G03G 500
US Classification:
355218
Abstract:
An electrophotographic printing machine in which successive electrostatic latent images are recorded on a moving photoconductive belt. Each latent image is adapted to be recorded in a designated region on the photoconductive belt. The designated regions are separated from one another by an inter-image zone. A test patch is recorded in the inter-image zone. The number of designated regions on the photoconductive belt is adjusted so that the size of the inter-image zone is increased enabling a portion of the latent image to be recorded in the inter-image zone without overlapping any portion of the test patch.

Multi-Function Erase Lamp

US Patent:
5300985, Apr 5, 1994
Filed:
May 29, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/891326
Inventors:
John C. Demott - Rochester NY
Charles J. Urso - Webster NY
Mary A. Straube - Penfield NY
Donald E. Wiedrich - Ontario NY
Robert W. Corbin - Fairport NY
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
G03G 2100
US Classification:
355218
Abstract:
A multi-function, multi-segment ac plasma erase lamp is provided to selectively erase previously charged areas of a photoconductive member. The lamp performs the conventional erase function of fixed edge erase, edge shift and patch generation, while adding the functions of variable edge erase along an edge to accommodate reduction images and changes in page size. Another feature of this erase lamp is a "dark" segment which is energized but is not light emitting. Its function is to enhance the turn on time for the light emitting segments. A still further improvement is the application of a voltage to a photoresist coating applied the the lamp surface to create a field which will repel toner and dust particles from that surface of the lamp.
