Anti-Fouling Connector For Electronically Detonated Munitions

US Patent:
5074215, Dec 24, 1991
Filed:
Jul 9, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/551108
Inventors:
John P. Fiala - Forest Hill MD
Irving F. Barditch - Baltimore MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
F41A 1969
US Classification:
102293
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for clearing the uling black powder residues deposited on the electrical connectors of electrically detonated munitions. A female connector is provided with a recurved lanced outer spring clip which automatically scrapes off the residue on an insulator and contact surfaces of a male bipolar connector plug when the two connectors are rotated with respect to each other.

Method Of Assembly Of Compacted Fibers And Explosive Charge For Effective Dissemination

US Patent:
5659147, Aug 19, 1997
Filed:
Jan 26, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/377234
Inventors:
William G. Rouse - Aberdeen MD
John P. Fiala - Forest Hill MD
Lisa A. Caudill - Forest Hill MD
Connie S. Kilgore - New Park PA
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
F42B 300
F42B 414
US Classification:
86 2014
Abstract:
A millimeter wave screening cloud-forming product is made by forming comped hollow disks of carbon fiber cut to a desired length. The handleable disks are stacked inside a grenade body forming a hollow cylindrical shape. A high explosive mass is inserted into the resulting compacted hollow cylinder, enabling bursting of the compacted mass to release the individual carbon fibers.

Enhanced Grenade Launcher - Big Shot

US Patent:
H12572, Nov 2, 1993
Filed:
Mar 12, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/031377
Inventors:
Paul G. Schabdach - Churchville MD
Irving F. Barditch - Baltimore MD
John P. Fiala - Forest Hill MD
William G. Rouse - Aberdeen MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
F23Q 702
F41C 1102
US Classification:
102217
Abstract:
An electrical system which serves to control the firing of multiple grenade aunchers. The system generates multiple coded tone pairs for up to sixteen launchers which are provided to the launchers through a +28VDC line connected to the vehicular power supply. The tone pairs are decoded enroute to each launcher which exercise a firing circuit triggering the grenade launcher's firing squib causing the grenade to launch.

Grenade Launching Apparatus

US Patent:
5291680, Mar 8, 1994
Filed:
Sep 19, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/943657
Inventors:
Paul G. Schabdach - Churchville MD
Irving F. Barditch - Baltimore MD
William G. Rouse - Aberdeen MD
John P. Fiala - Forest Hill MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
F41F 100
US Classification:
42105
Abstract:
A grenade launching apparatus launches a number of grenades and has a conller and a launcher. The controller controls the launching and includes a selector which is responsive to operator input for selecting one or more of the grenades to be launched. The controller also includes a display for indicating that a selected grenade has been launched. The launcher is for launching one or more of the grenades and includes a firing circuit which is responsive to the selector. The firing circuit activates the launcher to launch each selected grenade. The launcher also includes a launch detector for detecting that a selected grenade has been launched by the firing circuit. The display of the controller is responsive to the launch detector.

Method Of Assembly Of Compacted Powder And Explosive Charge For Effective Dissemination

US Patent:
H7757, May 1, 1990
Filed:
Aug 1, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/387905
Inventors:
William G. Rouse - Aberdeen MD
Ronald E. Rhea - Bel Air MD
Michael J. Burnham - Kingsville MD
Connie S. Kilgore - Delta PA
John P. Fiala - Forest Hill MD
Lisa A. Bray - Joppa MD
Assignee:
The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Army - Washington DC
International Classification:
F42B 300
US Classification:
86 201
Abstract:
A minimum hazard visual screening cloud-forming product is made by forming slurry of fine spheres of titanium dioxide composition, of submicron diameter, together with a volatile surface-wetting agent liquid, in the form of a liquid hydrocarbon, extruding and severing the extended slurry mass into a desired container shape, in particular, a hollow cylindrical shape, and drying the mass. An HE explosive mass is inserted into the resulting compacted hollow cylinder, enabling bursting of the compacted mass.
