US Classification:
439 67, 439 62, 439262
Abstract:
A method of connecting a first conductive device to a second conductive device is provided. The first conductive device has a first conductive trace supported by a first substrate. The first trace has a generally planar first surface spaced away from the first substrate that defines a first edge. The second conductive device has a second conductive trace supported by a second substrate. The second trace has a generally planar second surface spaced away from the second substrate that defines a second edge. The method includes joining the first edge of the first trace with the second trace to form an area of contact such that a portion of the first surface proximate the area of contact is non-parallel with a portion of the second surface proximate the area of contact.

Compliant Contacts For Conductive Devices

US Patent:
6641408, Nov 4, 2003
Filed:
Oct 18, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/690561
Inventors:
John W. Svenkeson - Marine on St. Croix MN
John D. Hamre - Plymouth MN
Assignee:
Storage Technology Corporation - Louisville CO
International Classification:
H01R 1200
US Classification:
439 67, 439951
Abstract:
A conductive device includes a substrate and a plurality of conductive traces supported by the substrate. Each trace has a contact portion. Moreover, sufficient substrate material is removed from the substrate to sufficiently lessen stiffness of selected ones of the contact portions so that the selected ones of the contact portions are independently displaceable with respect to each other. A method of manufacturing such a conductive device is also provided.

Three State Pulse Width Modulation Code

US Patent:
6671316, Dec 30, 2003
Filed:
Apr 13, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/548768
Inventors:
John David Hamre - Plymouth MN
Assignee:
Storage Technology Corporation - Louisville CO
International Classification:
H04L 2704
US Classification:
375239, 375242, 375295, 331 1 A
Abstract:
A DC balanced, single bit manipulation method and system for encoding a serial data stream having a plurality of low and high bits includes generating a pulse stream. The serial data stream is to be transferred along a serial loop. The pulse stream includes a series of pulses each having a nominal time duration. A pulse of the pulse stream is modified to have a time duration longer than the nominal time duration to encode a transition of the data stream from a low bit to a high bit. A pulse of the pulse stream is modified to have a time duration shorter than the nominal time duration to encode a transition of the data stream from a high bit to a low bit. The time duration of a pulse of the pulse stream is maintained at the nominal time duration to encode two sequential high bits of the data stream. The time duration of a pulse of the pulse stream is maintained at the nominal time duration to encode two sequential low bits of the data stream. A feature of the DC balanced, single bit manipulation method and system is that it is self clocking.

Method Of Forming Alignment Features For Conductive Devices

US Patent:
6699395, Mar 2, 2004
Filed:
Oct 18, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/690560
Inventors:
John W. Svenkeson - Marine On St. Croix MN
John D. Hamre - Plymouth MN
Assignee:
Storage Technology Corporation - Louisville CO
International Classification:
H05K 300
US Classification:
216 13, 216 17, 216 51, 216 52, 216100, 216105, 29847, 21912169, 21912171
Abstract:
A method of forming a conductive device includes forming a conductive layer on a substrate; etching the conductive layer to form a plurality of conductive traces; etching the conductive layer to form at least one mask feature; and removing substrate material that is not covered by the at least one mask feature so as to form at least one mechanical alignment feature.

Method And System For Transferring Variable Sized Loop Words Between Elements Connected Within Serial Loop Through Serial Interconnect

US Patent:
6701404, Mar 2, 2004
Filed:
May 5, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/565147
Inventors:
John David Hamre - Plymouth MN
Reed Stillman Nelson - Shoreview MN
Christopher John Vankrevelen - Coon Rapids MN
Assignee:
Storage Technology Corporation - Louisville CO
International Classification:
G06F 100
US Classification:
710307, 710313, 709248
Abstract:
A dynamic perimeter circular bus method and system includes a serial interconnect and elements connected in a serial loop through the serial interconnect. In operation, a variable sized loop word is transferred between elements along the serial loop. A sync character of the loop word is transferred from element to element along the serial loop. The sync character is indicative of the beginning of the loop word. At least one present character of the loop word after the sync character is then transferred from element to element along the serial loop. A present character is then asserted at an element to indicate that a data word follows the asserted present character in the loop word. The data word from the element is then put on to the loop word after the asserted present character thereby increasing the size of the loop word. The data word of the loop word is then transferred from element to element along the serial loop.
