A method and apparatus for synchronizing ATM cells is disclosed. A synchronization unit receives a data clock signal and a plurality of control signals. Based on those signals, a sync pulse is generated. If synchronization is not achieved within a predetermined time period, the sync pulse is shifted one bit location. A fishing line carrier device for use in downrigger fishing. The device includes a main body portion. A bow extends from the front of the main body portion. A tail extends from the rear of the main body portion and includes a vertical stabilizer and a horizontal stabilizer. The horizontal stabilizer has a flap extending downwardly from its trailing edge. A vertically disposed central plane extends from the bow to the tail. A bore extends vertically through the main body portion along the central plane. A diagonally extending access slot extends from the outer surface of the body to the central plane. Upper and lower access slots communicate the diagonally extending access slot with the bore. A locking pin receiving tunnel extends along the diagonally extending access slot and is adapted to receive a locking pin after the carrier device is positioned onto a downrigger line.

Abstract:
One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that uses faceted metadata to facilitate navigation through information resources. During operation, the system receives a query from a client at a server. The system then performs the query on metadata, wherein the metadata contains facets that describe characteristics of the information resources. While performing the query, the system generates results that identify information resources that satisfy the query. Next, the system constructs a response containing the results, the query, and suggestions on how to refine the query. The system then sends the response to the client, thereby allowing the client to refine the query. In this way, the client and server can work together in a stateless manner to refine the query without having to maintain state information about the query on the server.

One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for producing personalized web site content to be presented to a user of a content provider web site based upon information gathered regarding the user. The system operates by receiving data sent from a remote browser to a personalization server. This data is sent by a web page on the remote browser and includes an identifier for the user. This web page was previously sent from the content provider web site to the remote browser while the remote browser was navigating through the content provider web site. The personalization server uses the identifier to look up information related to the user in a database associated with the personalization server. This information is used to produce personalized web site content for the user based upon the interests of the user. For example, personalized web site content can include hypertext markup language (HTML) code, images or navigational options to other web locations. Abstract:
A method is described that enhances the atmosphere of romance that surrounds the purchase and delivery of a gift of jewelry. Broadly, the present invention establishes a romantic “theme” for a particular item of jewelry. This theme is first presented either through promotional advertising or in-store advertising, in connection with a particular item of jewelry. The theme is continued at the time of delivery of the item of jewelry, and is further continued even after the delivery. Preferably, this theme is in the form of a fabled love story, such as the stories of Romeo and Juliet, Orpheus and Eurydice, Tristan and Isolde, Anthony and Cleopatra, as well as countless others. It should be appreciated that such a novel method for selling an item of jewelry effectively enhances the atmosphere of romance that surrounds the gift, thereby enhancing the demand for jewelry items sold in this fashion. Preferably the method of one embodiment of the invention includes the step of providing a display in close proximity connection with the ring, wherein the display has a defined love story theme associated with it. The preferred method further includes the step of delivering the article of jewelry in a box, the box containing a miniature book having various love stories. Further still, the preferred method includes the step of providing a booklet containing a personalized poem, the booklet further including a graphic image that is associated with the love story theme.
