Energy Efficient Garage Door Construction And The Like
US Patent:
4518026, May 21, 1985
Filed:
Mar 28, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/479741
Inventors:
Ronald F. Otto - West Branch MI
John J. Kempel - West Branch MI
John J. Kempel - West Branch MI
Assignee:
Garland Manufacturing Co. - West Branch MI
International Classification:
E06B 312
E06B 900
E06B 900
US Classification:
160232
Abstract:
An energy efficient garage door construction comprising a plurality of interconnected door sections. Each of the sections includes a pair of symmetrical metal panels forming the opposed sides and long edges of the section, and an expanded polystyrene core flanked by a pair of wooden stiles with the metal panels adhesively bonded to the core and stiles. The metal panels form oppositely facing recesses along one side edge and tongues along the other side edge so that adjacent panels interfit to create a baffle effect. The wooden stiles give the door sections extra strength and rigidity, while also serving as a reinforcement plate for mounting locks and other door hardware on the end portions of the door sections.
