Abstract:
The present invention is directed to thermoplastic elastomer films and bags made from thermoplastic elastomer films and also to methods for making thermoplastic elastomer films and bags. The thermoplastic elastomer films of the present invention are composed of thermoplastic elastomers and non-elastic polyesters. The bags of the present invention are fabricated using blended monolayer thermoplastic films that include a blend of thermoplastic elastomer and a non-elastic polyester, or co-extruded multi-layer films that include at least one layer of thermoplastic elastomer and at least one layer of non-elastic polyester. The blended monolayer thermoplastic films of the present invention are useful in the food handling industry and particularly in the meat packaging industry and for use in cooking bag applications. The co-extruded films of the present invention are also useful in the food handling industry and particularly the meat packaging industry and for use in meat casing applications.

High Temperature Venting Bags

US Patent:
7709069, May 4, 2010
Filed:
Dec 14, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/300175
Inventors:
Michael D. Schmal - Orwigsburg PA, US
Ernest E. Bachert - Orwigsburg PA, US
John A. Menges - Auburn PA, US
Assignee:
M & Q Packaging Corporation - Schuylkill Haven PA
International Classification:
B32B 27/06
H05B 6/80
B65D 81/34
B65D 33/01
B29D 22/00
US Classification:
428 357, 219735, 426113, 383103, 428 352
Abstract:
Provided are high temperature, venting food preparation bags used to package food products for storage, transportation, and preparation and methods for making and using the same. High temperature, venting food preparation bags are composed of a sealed end, an open end, at least one side wall composed of a first thermoplastic film having a vent, and a vent seal composed of a second thermoplastic film. The vent seal is fused to the sidewall via a non-adhesive seal thereby closing the vents. At elevated temperatures, the vent seal at least partially detaches from the side wall thereby opening the vents. Opening of the at least one vent is not dependent upon the accumulation of internal fluid or gaseous pressure, and is compatible with vacuum packaging techniques. Vented cooking techniques are provided that permit browning and crisping of beef and poultry without manipulating the food preparation bag during cooking.

Abstract:
Provided are high temperature food preparation films, bags made from the films, as well as methods for fabricating such bags. The high temperature food preparation films are composed of a blended monolayer thermoplastic elastomer film comprising a polyamide and a polyester elastomer. The polyamides include nylon-6, nylon-6,6, copolymers of nylon-6, copolymers of nylon-6,6, and combinations thereof. Bags made from such films are used in high temperature cooking applications of up to about 425 F.

Cook And Chill Casing

US Patent:
2004025, Dec 16, 2004
Filed:
Aug 20, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/643959
Inventors:
John Menges - Auburn PA, US
Ernest Bachert - Orwigsburg PA, US
George Schmidt - Lansdale PA, US
Assignee:
M&Q Plastic Products, Inc.
International Classification:
B65D001/00
US Classification:
428/035200
Abstract:
A cook and chill casing includes a substantially rectangular bag formed from a plastic, tubular material. The bag has a food-receiving interior open at a first end and sealed at a second end. The sealed end has a tapered seal that separates two corners of the tubular material from the interior. The two corners separated by the tapered seal provide handles for lifting the bag. The bag is formed from nylon, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyester, and/or various combinations of these materials. In one embodiment, the bag is formed from a multilayer, co-extruded plastic film having a thickness in the range of about two mils to about five mils, and the seal is a heat seal. A clip is used to seal the open end of the bag once it has been filled.
