Systems And Methods For Led Based Lighting

US Patent:
2008015, Jun 26, 2008
Filed:
Feb 6, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/671907
Inventors:
Timothy E. Starr - Sterling MA, US
Teddy D. Thomas - Needham MA, US
Michael P. Kosteva - Milford MA, US
John J. Palczynski - Hopkinton MA, US
Mark S. Pieper - Stow MA, US
Assignee:
TEXAS INSTRUMENTS INC - Dallas TX
International Classification:
H05B 41/36
US Classification:
315294
Abstract:
Various systems and methods for lighting are disclosed. For example, some embodiments of the present invention provide methods for retrofitting lights. The methods include providing a solid state light bulb. The solid state light bulb includes: an LED array, a dimming control circuit, and a current regulator. The current regulator provides an LED current to the LED array. The LED current varies based on a control from the dimming control circuit. The methods further include, electrically coupling the solid state light bulb to an existing incandescent dimmer switch, and adjusting the existing incandescent dimmer switch such that the intensity of light emitted from the LED array is adjusted in proportion to the adjustment of the existing incandescent dimmer switch.

Cross Regulator For A Multiple Output Power Supply

US Patent:
5220271, Jun 15, 1993
Filed:
Mar 17, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/853061
Inventors:
John J. Palczynski - Hopkinton MA
Assignee:
Digital Equipment Corporation - Maynard MA
International Classification:
G05F 1577
US Classification:
323266
Abstract:
The disclosed invention regulates the voltage of an output terminal of a multiple output power supply. It operates by diverting current from one output terminal to another output terminal. The invention is less expensive than other alternatives, and has performance advantages over comparably priced alternatives. It may be used in various configurations to maintain an output voltage below a limit, above a limit, or within a range. Additional configurations may be used to regulate the voltages of multiple output terminals.

Apparatus And Method For Effecting Power Distribution To A Host System From A Voltage Source Or A Battery

US Patent:
2007009, May 3, 2007
Filed:
Oct 28, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/261092
Inventors:
John Palczynski - Hopkinton MA, US
International Classification:
H02J 7/00
US Classification:
320128000
Abstract:
An apparatus for effecting power distribution to a host system at a supply locus from one of a voltage source or a battery includes: (a) a current transfer unit having a first and a second connection; the second connection being coupled with the battery; and (b) a control device switchingly coupling the first connection to effect alternating connection with the voltage source and with a low potential. The control device is sensingly coupled with the voltage source and within the apparatus for receiving indicating signals. The control device responds to the indicating signals to control the alternating connection to achieve stepped up delivery of voltage presented by the battery unit to the supply locus when the indicating signals indicate a first circumstance. The control device responds to the indicating signals to switchingly control the alternating connection to achieve charging the battery when the indicating signals indicate a second circumstance.
