Decision Enhancement System For A Vehicle Safety Restraint Application

US Patent:
6944527, Sep 13, 2005
Filed:
Nov 7, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/703345
Inventors:
Michael E. Farmer - West Bloomfield MI, US
John D. Prainito - Clarkston MI, US
Michael Montag - Delafield WI, US
Daniel M. Croft - Plymouth MI, US
Joseph J. Spryshak - Hartland MI, US
Kevin S. Jump - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
B60R022/00
US Classification:
701 45, 701 46, 180271, 280734
Abstract:
The disclosure describes systems and methods that pertain to interactions between a vehicle and an occupant within the vehicle. More specifically, various systems and methods for enhancing the decisions of automated vehicle applications (collectively “decision enhancement system”) are disclosed. In a safety restraint embodiment, a sensor is used to capture various sensor readings. Sensor readings are typically in the form of images. Occupant information, such as location attributes, motion attributes, and occupant category attributes can be obtained from the sensor readings. Such information can then used by the system to enhance the decisions made by various automated applications.

Method And Apparatus For Distortion Correction And Image Enhancing Of A Vehicle Rear Viewing System

US Patent:
8233045, Jul 31, 2012
Filed:
Jul 16, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/879117
Inventors:
Yun Luo - Livonia MI, US
Chris St. John - Northville MI, US
John Prainito - Clarkston MI, US
Assignee:
TRW Automotive U.S. LLC - Livonia MI
International Classification:
H04N 7/18
H04N 9/47
US Classification:
348148, 348143, 348147
Abstract:
An image enhancing system for a vehicle comprises a display unit for displaying modified images and an imaging device for receiving captured images—enhanced by the image enhancing system. The system further includes an image enhancing module in communication with the display unit and the imaging device—such that pixels located in the captured images are enhanced by repositioning the pixels from a first position to a second position via a transfer operation.

Pressure Sensor Housing

US Patent:
6016102, Jan 18, 2000
Filed:
Jan 29, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/240756
Inventors:
G. Clark Fortune - Farmington Hills MI
Thomas J. Waraksa - Clarkston MI
James K. Spring - Brighton MI
John D. Prainito - Rochester Hills MI
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
B60C 2300
US Classification:
340442
Abstract:
An apparatus (10) allows atmospheric pressure into an environmentally sealed enclosure for creating an equilibrium that allows a sensor (28) make a proper measurement. A slot or opening (26) in the cover (14) exposes outside atmospheric air to a restricted portion of a gas permeable membrane (18). The membrane (18) allows a selected gas to pass through the membrane (18) creating the equilibrium in the housing (12). A gasket (16) positioned between the cover (14) and housing (12) seals the housing in an air tight manner except for the gases allowed in through the membrane (18). Pressure sensor (28) can then make a more accurate measurement. Apparatus (10) finds particular utility in a low pressure tire management system.

Operator Intent Based Passive Keyless Vehicle Control System

US Patent:
6034617, Mar 7, 2000
Filed:
Dec 4, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/205914
Inventors:
Charles J. Luebke - Sussex WI
Thomas J. Waraksa - Clarkston MI
John D. Prainito - Rochester Hills MI
Richard C. Barthel - Libertyville IL
David R. Kahl - Waterford MI
James A. Poirier - Sterling Heights MI
Assignee:
Eaton Corporation - Cleveland OH
International Classification:
G06F 704
US Classification:
34082531
Abstract:
A passive remote operating system is disclosed which may be employed to gain entry to a vehicle. A remote control, carried by a driver, periodically transmits a command signal whenever the remote control is moving. As the driver approaches the vehicle, the remote control comes within the reception range of a control circuit in the vehicle, which then receives the command signal. Receipt of the command signal activates the control circuit to begin sensing for an action by the driver, such as operation of a door handle, which indicates an intention to enter the vehicle. Upon sensing that action within a given period after receipt of the command signal, the doors of the vehicle are unlocked.
