Modules And Methods For Biasing Power To A Multi-Engine Power Plant Suitable For One Engine Inoperative Flight Procedure Training

US Patent:
2009018, Jul 23, 2009
Filed:
Jan 23, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/018219
Inventors:
John Rucci - East Longmeadow MA, US
Anthony Z. Stobiecki - Huntington CT, US
Brent Davis - Oxford CT, US
Christopher James Myers - Guilford CT, US
International Classification:
G09B 9/08
US Classification:
434 33
Abstract:
A system and method for conducting flight procedures training in a rotary-wing aircraft with a multi-engine powerplant includes determining a variable bias relative an available power margin to simulate a reduced power available flight condition; and displaying symbology indicative of the simulated reduced power available flight condition.

Torque Based Power Limit Cueing System And Method

US Patent:
2013005, Feb 28, 2013
Filed:
Aug 24, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/216867
Inventors:
Aaron L. Greenfield - Shelton CT, US
Alex Faynberg - Cheshire CT, US
Vineet Sahasrabudhe - Cheshire CT, US
John Rucci - East Longmeadow MA, US
Glen Knaust - Palm City FL, US
Assignee:
SIKORSKY AIRCRAFT CORPORATION - Stratford CT
International Classification:
B64D 31/06
G06F 19/00
US Classification:
701 3
Abstract:
A torque based power limit cueing system is provided and includes an engine computer to compile data relating to torque and additional information of each of one or more engines, an active stick by which tactile cueing are provided to a pilot and by which the pilot inputs control commands, a multi-function display (MFD) by which visible cues are provided to the pilot and a flight control computer (FCC) operably coupled to the engine computer, the active stick and the multi-function display, the FCC being configured to receive the data from the engine computer and to output tactile cue commands and visible commands in accordance with the torque and the additional information of each of the one or more engines to the active stick and the MFD, respectively.

Position Hold Override Control

US Patent:
2018014, May 24, 2018
Filed:
Mar 4, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/571537
Inventors:
- Stratford CT, US
Alex Faynberg - Cheshire CT, US
Stephen Kubik - Shelton CT, US
Donald T. Ream - Jupiter FL, US
John Rucci - Jupiter FL, US
Stephen C. McCulley - Palm City FL, US
Christiaan Corry - Jupiter FL, US
International Classification:
B64C 13/18
B64C 13/22
G05D 1/08
G05D 1/00
Abstract:
A method for position hold override control of an aircraft includes determining, by a processor, that a position hold mode is enabled to hold the aircraft at a substantially fixed position with respect to a target. The processor receives a control input indicative of a commanded change in acceleration of the aircraft as an override of the position hold mode. The processor determines an acceleration command based on the commanded change in acceleration. The acceleration command is adjusted as an adjusted acceleration command responsive to a non-linear scheduled translational rate command based on feedback of a commanded velocity of the aircraft. An update to the commanded velocity of the aircraft is generated based on the adjusted acceleration command.

Deceleration To Hover Modulation

US Patent:
2015029, Oct 15, 2015
Filed:
Apr 11, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/251133
Inventors:
- Stratford CT, US
Alex Faynberg - Cheshire CT, US
Stephen C. Mcculley - Palm City FL, US
John P. Rucci - Jupiter FL, US
Christiaan P. Corry - Jupiter FL, US
Edward Pavelka - San Diego CA, US
Assignee:
Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation - Stratford CT
International Classification:
B64C 13/50
G05D 1/02
G05D 13/02
G05D 13/62
Abstract:
A system and method for controlling a deceleration profile of an aircraft, includes a processor and memory that receives a signal indicative of a deceleration command; receives signals indicative of a sensed velocity and a commanded heading rate; determines a commanded velocity in response to the receiving of the deceleration command and the commanded heading rate; determines an estimated deceleration command as a function of the commanded velocity; and determines an actual deceleration command in response to the determining of the estimated deceleration command.
