Method For Robust Estimation Of Road Bank Angle

US Patent:
6351694, Feb 26, 2002
Filed:
Jan 16, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/761157
Inventors:
Hongtei Eric Tseng - Canton MI
John Yester - Bloomfield Hills MI
Ming Lang Kuang - Canton MI
Assignee:
Ford Global Technologies, Inc. - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
G06F 1700
US Classification:
701 1, 701 70, 180197
Abstract:
A method for determining road bank angle in vehicle includes a lateral acceleration sensor ( ) that generates a first signal corresponding to lateral acceleration. A yaw rate sensor ( ) generates a second signal corresponding to a yaw rate signal. A controller ( ) coupled to the sensors performs the step of calculating a first bank angle estimate dependent on the first signal, calculating a second bank angle estimate dependent on the second signal, calculating a third bank angle estimate dependent on both the first and second signals, calculating a dynamic compensation factor based as a function of the first bank angle estimate, the second bank angle estimate and the third bank angle estimate, decomposing the third bank angle estimate into a plurality of third bank angle frequency layers, reducing each of the plurality of third bank angle frequency layers in response to a multiplicative factor, said multiplicative factor being a function of the dynamic compensation factor to obtain a plurality of reduced third bank angles, and calculating a final bank angle bias estimate based on a sum of the plurality of reduced third bank angles.

Method And System For Maintaining Personalization Of User Adjustable Features

US Patent:
6775603, Aug 10, 2004
Filed:
Oct 18, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/682785
Inventors:
John Loring Yester - Bloomfield Hills MI
Krishnaswamy Venkatesh Prasad - Ann Arbor MI
Assignee:
Ford Motor Company - Dearborn MI
International Classification:
G06K 500
US Classification:
701 36, 235375
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for selectively setting one or more variable vehicle operating parameters or features by storing information representative of user/driver preferences on a portable information storage device, and later recalled to automatically adjust the same or other system or device to the same setting(s). Examples of such systems or devices includes seat position, mirrors, radio presets, climate control settings, Web sites, bookmarks, and mobile telephone presets. The personalized âsettingsâ are thus available to be transported and transferred where desired by the possessor of the device.

Method Of Dynamic Intersection Mapping

US Patent:
8340894, Dec 25, 2012
Filed:
Oct 8, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/576078
Inventors:
John L. Yester - Birmingham MI, US
Assignee:
Honda Motor Co., Ltd. - Tokyo
International Classification:
G08G 1/16
US Classification:
701301, 701437, 340436, 340438, 3409952
Abstract:
A motor vehicle is provided having a collision warning system that can map an upcoming road section for the motor vehicle. The system can evaluate potential paths for the road section based on vehicle travel history information through it. The system can receive the information from a transmitter proximate the road section, such as a roadside transmitter or one or more nearby vehicles having traversed the road section. The road section can include an intersection and the system can determine a lane configuration for at least a portion of it based on vehicle travel history information. The system can calculate a threat of collision for the motor vehicle with a target vehicle based on map data obtained from estimated paths or lane configurations for the road section. Methods pertaining to mapping a road section and operation of the system are also provided.
