Abstract:
The present invention is a process for aliphatic or cycloaliphatic isocyanate. The process comprises reacting an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic primary amine, with phosgene in the presence of an inert solvent wherein the initial reaction temperature is between 100 and 130 C. and the temperature is subsequently ramped to 150 to 180 C. during the course of the reaction, the solvent to amine weight ratio is 95:5 to 80:20, the total reaction pressure is maintained between 50 and 350 psig and the amine is rapidly dispersed in the phosgene through injection in a region of high efficiency mixing.

Isocyanurate polyisocyanates compositions derived from bis(isocyanotomethyl)cyclohexane are disclosed. The compositions are prepared by cyclizing (i) 1,3-bis(isocyanotomethyl)cyclohexane or 1,4-bis(isocyanotomethyl)cyclohexane or (ii) an isomeric mixture of two or more of cis-1,3-bis(isocyanotomethyl)cyclohexane, trans-1,3-bis(isocyanotomethyl)cyclohexane, cis-1,4-bis(isocyanotomethyl)cyclohexane and trans-1,4-bis(isocyanotomethyl)cyclohexane in the presence of a trimerization catalysts, and then deactivating these catalysts. The isocyanurate polyisocyanates can be further modified to contain urethane, urea, biuret, allophanate, imino-s-triazine, uretonimine or carbodiimide moieties.

Abstract:
PtSi/Si Schottky diode infrared detectors are currently being used in large-area focal plane arrays for imaging in the 3-5 micron atmospheric transmission window. Their photoresponse cuts off at about 6 microns, beyond which they cannot detect infrared ratiation. Because of the nature of Schottky diodes, this cut-off wavelength cannot be adjusted during operation, but is relatively fixed, varying only in proportion of the fourth root of an externally applied bias. This disclosure describes a Schottky diode infrared detector with a voltage-tunable cut-off wavelength. The tunability is obtained by modification of the Schottky diode band diagram by insertion of a SiGe layer, with the appropriate parameters, between the silicide and the Si substrate, making the detector a silicide/SiGe/Si Schottky diode detector. The SiGe/Si interface has a valence band offset that can be used to engineer the shape, or depth profile, of the Schottky barrier. The energy offset can be gradual or abrupt, depending on the grading of the Ge concentration in the SiGe layer.
