System And Method For Fast Polyhedral Cell Sorting

US Patent:
6356262, Mar 12, 2002
Filed:
Apr 15, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/292704
Inventors:
James Thomas Klosowski - Rye NY
Claudio T. Silva - Mahwah NJ
Gabriel Taubin - Hartsdale NY
Peter Lawrence Williams - Livermore CA
Joseph Shannon Baird Mitchell - Port Jefferson NY
Joao Luiz Dihl Comba - Stanford CA
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06T 1540
US Classification:
345421, 345619
Abstract:
The visibility ordering of polyhedral cells is efficiently determined by building an ordering graph, comprising oriented edges between two cells. Each edge (A,B) corresponds to the fact that cell A has to be projected, or rendered, before B. A set of ordering relations and rules that can be shown to generate, if one exists, a global ordering of the polyhedral cell complex. Three different types of edges are used to accomplish this: MPVO, BSP and PPC edges. MPVO edges exist between two cells that share a face. To define the BSP edges, a BSP-tree of the boundary faces of the cell complex is constructed. During this construction, some of the boundary faces of the cells will be âcutâ by the BSP-tree âextendedâ faces, into multiple pieces. If C is the boundary cell, and câ, câ, and so on, are the pieces of its boundary faces, the BSP_edge (câ, C) is defined to mean that cell C can only be projected after câ has been projected by the BSP. A cell C is in the PPC if one of the pieces that compose it, say câ, has been projected by the BSP, but there exist other pieces of cell C that have not been projected.

Abstract:
Rogue RFID readers are detected by listening to communication between rogue reader and a tag, capturing a time stamp and/or a channel associated with the communication, and checking the captured time stamp/channel to determine whether it is a result of a command from another legitimate reader. Audible or visible alerts may be issued, flags may be set, or messages transmitted to an administrator upon determining the operation of the rogue RFID reader. Based on the alert(s) affected tags or the rogue reader may be jammed or an effect of the illegal transmission by the rogue reader may be reversed or tags replaced.

Optimizing Power Resources For Interconnected Mobile Iot Devices

US Patent:
2022030, Sep 22, 2022
Filed:
Jun 9, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/837008
Inventors:
- Bellevue WA, US
Nicholas LaVassar - Issaquah WA, US
Christopher Painter - Kirkland WA, US
Dhruv Chadha - Kirkland WA, US
Gavin Feuer - Seattle WA, US
Joseph Baird - Kent WA, US
International Classification:
H04W 52/02
H04W 4/80
H04W 64/00
Abstract:
A central IoT controller is described for conserving power resources of mobile IoT devices. Specifically, the central IoT controller is configured to at least monitor power reserves of mobile IoT devices, and in response to detecting that a power reserve has fallen below a predetermined threshold, generate computer-executable instructions that adjust configuration settings of the mobile IoT devices to conserve a remaining power reserve. The central IoT controller may modify a check-in interval for mobile IoT devices, configure the transmission of data communications via more power-efficient communication protocols, or reduce the number of active sensors on the mobile IoT device based on proximity to a trusted geolocation or a trusted device. Further, data communications may be rerouted via a proximate trusted device or other proximate mobile IoT device, in response to such device providing an efficiency with respect to available communication protocols.

Vehicle Remote Start Controller

US Patent:
2022025, Aug 11, 2022
Filed:
Feb 10, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/173005
Inventors:
- Bellevue WA, US
Nicholas LaVASSAR - Issaquah WA, US
Dhruv CHADHA - Kirkland WA, US
Mehdi PIRAEE - Bothell WA, US
Joseph BAIRD - Kent WA, US
Evan INGARDIA - Seattle WA, US
International Classification:
B60R 25/24
B60R 25/34
B60R 25/33
B60R 25/31
B60R 25/102
Abstract:
This disclosure describes techniques that enable a vehicle remote start controller to initiate a remote start of an idle vehicle. The remote start controller may retrieve sensor data associated with a vehicle and analyze the sensor data to determine the current state of the vehicle. In doing so, the remote start controller may determine whether to initiate a remote start of the vehicle based at least in part on the current state. In response to determining to initiate the remote start, the remote start controller may generate computer-executable instructions for delivery to the vehicle that initiates the remote start.

Modular Tracking Device

US Patent:
2021031, Oct 14, 2021
Filed:
Jun 23, 2021
Appl. No.:
17/356360
Inventors:
- Bellevue WA, US
Todd Mason - Bellevue WA, US
Barry Butterklee - Sammamish WA, US
Gavin Feuer - Seattle WA, US
Yasha Li - Redmond WA, US
Parag Garg - Woodinville WA, US
Joseph Baird - Kent WA, US
International Classification:

Abstract:
Techniques and examples pertaining to a tracking method using a two-component tracking device are described. The tracking device includes two components paired with one another: a first component that is specific to a subject the tracking device is intended to track, and a second component that is generic. The second component is capable of establishing a wireless connection with a cellular network, as well as collecting location information of the second component itself. The tracking method involves receiving from the cellular network a set of requirements associated with the subject, and triggering an action based on the set of requirements and the location information collected. The tracking method enables tracking of multiple subjects without a pairing mistake. Namely, a mismatch between multiple subjects to be tracked and multiple tracking devices intended to track the subjects can be avoided.
