Injection Heads For Railroad Tie Treating Apparatus

US Patent:
5354373, Oct 11, 1994
Filed:
Aug 5, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/740430
Inventors:
Joseph T. Crisafulli - Glendive MT
International Classification:
B05C 320
US Classification:
118410
Abstract:
Injection heads for a railroad tie treating apparatus by which a flowable treating material can be injected through unused or unoccupied spike holes in railroad rail tie plates which anchor the bottom flange of a railroad rail to the wooden ties. Each of the injection heads include a structure enabling the injection head to be sealingly engaged with tie plate in order to prevent leakage of the treating material between the injection head and tie plate with several embodiments of the invention being disclosed to assure efficient discharge of the flowable treating material between the bottom surface of the tie plates and the adjacent surface areas of the wooden ties.

Railroad Tie Treating Method And Apparatuses

US Patent:
5046448, Sep 10, 1991
Filed:
Nov 21, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/439321
Inventors:
Joseph T. Crisafulli - Glendive MT
International Classification:
B05B 1302
B05C 500
US Classification:
118305
Abstract:
A method and apparatuses for treating railroad ties by injecting a flowable treating material through unused or unoccupied spike holes in railroad rail tie plates which anchor the bottom flange of a railroad rail to the wooden ties. In one embodiment of the invention, the apparatus includes a backpack unit including a tank and pump assembly secured to the back of a user by shoulder straps with a manually manipulated injector device insertable into an unused or unoccupied spike hole in a tie plate in a sealed relationship thereto. The injector or applicator includes a rigid tubular member having a nozzle and valve at the lower end, a T-handle at the upper end and a valve actuator associated with one of the handgrip areas of the T-handle with the T-handle also being connected with a flexible hose communicated with the supply tank and pump assembly thereby enabling a user to walk alongside a railroad rail and inject treating material through the unoccupied spike holes and between the upper surface of the wooden tie and the bottom surface of the tie plate for protecting the wooden tie from fungi and other conditions which cause decay of the wooden tie. In another embodiment of the invention, the treating apparatus is mounted on a pickup truck or other vehicle which can be driven alongside a pair of railroad rails with the vehicle including a pair of adjustable, collapsible and foldable booms supporting supply hoses interconnecting a supply tank and pump assembly with manually manipulated injectors.

Liquid Injection Machine

US Patent:
4746553, May 24, 1988
Filed:
Aug 7, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/082520
Inventors:
Joseph T. Crisafulli - Glendive MT
International Classification:
B05D 102
B05D 706
US Classification:
427397
Abstract:
A liquid injection machine for injecting wood preservative liquid onto railroad ties by injecting liquid through the unused spike hole or holes in a tie plate used to secure a railroad tie to a cross tie. The machine is supported movably on the railroad rails and includes an injection apparatus that can be manually controlled by an operator which allows the operator to inject a liquid through the unused spike holes in a railroad rail tie plate so that the liquid wood preservative will be injected into contact with the surface of the railroad tie beneath the tie plate. The injection apparatus is manually controlled for alignment of an injection nozzle with the unused spike hole and for vertical movement into sealing contact with the unused spike hole so that the wood preservative liquid can be injected under substantial pressure.
