Start-Up Circuit For Power Converters With Wide Input Voltage Range

US Patent:
8427849, Apr 23, 2013
Filed:
Apr 28, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/768950
Inventors:
Alexander Asinovski - Stoughton MA, US
Joseph Gonsalves - Warren RI, US
Assignee:
Murata Power Solutions - Mansfield MA
International Classification:
H02M 3/156
US Classification:
363 49, 323901
Abstract:
A start-up circuit includes a switching-device control circuit arranged to receive an input voltage and to provide a switching-device control signal, a switching device arranged to be controlled by the switching-device control signal and to provide a start-up signal, a power-converter control circuit arranged to receive the start-up signal and to provide a power-converter control signal, and a power converter arranged to receive the power-converter control signal and to provide an auxiliary output signal. The switching control circuit is arranged to receive the auxiliary output signal such that, when the auxiliary output signal reaches a predetermined level, the switching-device control circuit stops providing the switching-device control signal.

Programmable Underwater Lighting System

US Patent:
2008019, Aug 21, 2008
Filed:
Nov 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/946685
Inventors:
Gilbert Conover - Providence RI, US
Kevin L. Potucek - Far Hills NJ, US
Lloyd Slonim - , US
Carl L. Brunetti - Manville RI, US
Joseph Gonsalves - Warren RI, US
Paul Canavan - , US
Assignee:
Hayward Industries, Inc. - Elizabeth NJ
International Classification:
H05B 37/02
US Classification:
315291
Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a programmable underwater lighting system for pools and spas. A plurality of underwater lights, each having a plurality of LEDs for producing light of various colors, a microprocessor for controlling the plurality of LEDs, and a memory in communication with the microprocessor containing one or more stored control programs, allow for the generation of various lighting effects in a pool or spa. A central controller is provided in communication with the plurality of underwater lights, and allows a user to define or select a desired lighting effect (such as a sequence, a fading effect, a “moving” color pattern, etc.) using a display and a keyboard. Optionally, a handheld remote control could be provided, in wireless communication with the central controller, for allowing a user to remotely control the plurality of lighting fixtures. When a desired lighting effect is defined by a user, the central controller transmits an instruction to each of the plurality of underwater lights instructing each light to execute a specific stored control program in its memory to produce the desired lighting effect. Each of the lights could be in communication with the central controller using a power line and an associated power line carrier data protocol, and each light could be provided with a thermal management system for monitoring the operating temperature of the light and automatically adjusting the brightness of the light to prevent dangerous temperatures.

Control Driven Synchronous Rectifier Scheme For Isolated Active Clamp Forward Power Converters

US Patent:
2013029, Nov 7, 2013
Filed:
Mar 1, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/977789
Inventors:
Joseph Gonsalves - Warren RI, US
Assignee:
MURATA MANUFACTURING CO., LTD. - Nagaokakyo-shi, Kyoto-fu
International Classification:
H02M 3/335
US Classification:
363 2106
Abstract:
A synchronous rectification circuit includes a transformer receiving an input voltage at a primary side and outputting an output voltage at a secondary side and a controller arranged and programmed to operate independently from the input and output voltages. The controller preferably outputs control signals to switching logic devices, the switching logic devices being arranged to output timing signals to drive individual synchronous rectifiers included in the secondary side of the transformer. The synchronous rectification circuit includes at least one logic gate which receives the control signals output from the controller and supplies clock signals to the switching logic devices, the clock signals being generated by the at least one logic gate based on the control signal and driving devices arranged to receive the timing signals from a respective one of the switching logic devices, the driving devices driving the synchronous rectifiers in accordance with the timing signals.

Anti-Spatter Container Mounting And Actuating Device

US Patent:
