Appl. No.:
10/988755
Inventors:
Joseph M. Palm - Lombard IL, US
Loren H. Semler - Franklin Park IL, US
William E. Schulz - Palatine IL, US
Assignee:
Semler Industries, Inc. - Franklin Park IL
International Classification:
C02F 1/78
US Classification:
210 961, 210138, 210171, 210192, 210203, 210205, 210241, 2104163
Abstract:
A system for sanitizing and refilling a potable water system onboard a transport vehicle includes a potable water supply conduit, a potable water feed conduit, a potable water return conduit, a drain conduit, and a sanitizing and refilling station wherein the system is operable in a self-flush mode, a sanitizing mode using ozone, and a fill mode. A method of sanitizing and refilling a potable water system onboard a transport vehicle includes the steps of purging stagnant water from a sanitizing and refilling station, draining stagnant water from the transport's potable water system, sanitizing the transport's potable water system using ozone, draining the transport's potable water system, and filling the transport's potable water system by delivering fresh water.

Automatic Flushing System And Method For A Potable Water Station

US Patent:
7337800, Mar 4, 2008
Filed:
Nov 15, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/988752
Inventors:
Joseph M. Palm - Lombard IL, US
Loren H. Semler - Franklin Park IL, US
Assignee:
Semler Industries, Inc. - Franklin Park IL
International Classification:
F16K 17/38
US Classification:
137 80, 137238, 137357, 137552, 13762416
Abstract:
An automatic flushing system for a potable water station includes a conduit having a first end connected to a potable water supply source and a second end having a nozzle coupling. It also includes an air gap assembly having a coupling operable for coupling with the nozzle coupling to releasably connect the conduit to the air gap assembly in a stored position. Further, the system includes a control system operable for automatically flushing potable water through the conduit and the air gap assembly after exceeding a predetermined time in which a predetermined minimum threshold temperature is exceeded and a predetermined time during which the potable water station has remained idle. A method for automatically flushing a potable water station includes the step of providing the potable water station with a conduit having a first end connected to a potable water supply source and having a second end remote therefrom. It also includes the steps of coupling the second end of the conduit to an air gap assembly in a stored position of the potable water station, and automatically flushing potable water through the conduit and the air gap assembly of the potable water station. The method performs the step of automatically flushing after: a) a predetermined minimum threshold temperature has been exceeded for a predetermined time, and b) the potable water station has remained idle for a predetermined time.

Potable Water Station Sanitizing System And Method

US Patent:
7351329, Apr 1, 2008
Filed:
Nov 15, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/989222
Inventors:
Joseph M. Palm - Lombard IL, US
Loren H. Semler - Franklin Park IL, US
William E. Schulz - Palatine IL, US
Assignee:
Semler Industries, Inc. - Franklin Park IL
International Classification:
C02F 1/78
US Classification:
210 961, 210153, 2101673, 2101721, 210192, 2101951, 210205, 210241, 2104163, 210418
Abstract:
A system for sanitizing a potable water station includes a pair of conduits providing a fluid connection between the potable water station and the system. It also includes a pump operable for circulating water from the potable water station through one of the conduits to the system and through the other of the conduits from the system to the potable water station. Further, the system includes an ozone generator for injecting ozone into the circulating water to destroy bacterial contamination. A method for sanitizing a potable water station includes the step of circulating water from the potable water station and back to the potable water station. It also includes the step of generating ozone with an ozone generator. Further, the method includes the step of injecting ozone into the water circulating from and back to the potable water station.

Apparatus And Method For Cleaning Underground Liquid Fuel Storage Tanks

US Patent:
5409025, Apr 25, 1995
Filed:
Oct 6, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/132717
Inventors:
Loren H. Semler - Lake Forest IL
Jon Clegg - Elmhurst IL
Joseph Palm - Lombard IL
William E. Schulz - Elk Grove Village IL
Assignee:
Semler Industries Inc. - Franklin Park IL
International Classification:
B08B 912
US Classification:
134111
Abstract:
An apparatus and method are disclosed for cleaning and removing particulates from underground liquid fuel storage tanks which typically have restricted access openings to the interior thereof. The apparatus is provided with a main fuel pump having an inlet and outlet, an inflow passage communicating with the pump inlet for conducting fuel to the pump from an underground liquid storage tank, and an outflow passage communicating with the pump outlet for returning fuel from the pump to the same underground tank. The inflow passage is provided with protective strainer and a jet pump for increasing and maintaining the rate and velocity of fuel flowing therethrough to the main pump. The method of the present invention involves the steps of first dislodging, suspending, and removing particulates from the tank by withdrawing the fuel and suspended particulates from the tank through an outer passage of a coaxial hose, filtering the particulates from the fuel, and discharging filtered fuel back into the tank through an inner passage of the coaxial hose at a high velocity to dislodge and suspend particulates in the tank into the fuel.

Process For Recycling And Reconstituting Flexographic Inks

US Patent:
5017291, May 21, 1991
Filed:
Oct 24, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/605190
Inventors:
Loren H. Semler - Lake Forest IL
Joseph M. Palm - Lombard IL
Paul B. Englram - Carol Stream IL
Jon Y. Clegg - Elmhurst IL
Assignee:
Semler Industries, Inc. - Franklin Park IL
International Classification:
B01D 6158
US Classification:
210641
Abstract:
A process for recycling and reconstituting flexographic inks from wash water resulting from cleaning the rollers and other components of a flexographic printing press. The process includes the steps of circulating the wash water through a cross-flow ultrafilter to separate an optically-clear filtrate from a first concentrate containing suspended ink solids, bacteria, and macromolecules. Thereafter, the filtrate is directed through a reverse-osmosis filter to separate from the filtrate a second concentrate containing dissolved ink components and the remaining bacteria. The first and second concentrates are then combined together with a compatible biocidal agent to form a stable, biologically-inactive additive that is mixed with fresh ink concentrate to form pressready flexographic printing ink.
