Systems And Methods For Determining Connection Integrity Between Tubulars

US Patent:
2019007, Mar 14, 2019
Filed:
Sep 7, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/125324
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Eric Nall - Lafayette LA, US
Joshua Hebert - Breaux Bridge LA, US
Joshua Renard - Erath LA, US
International Classification:
E21B 19/16
E21B 17/042
E21B 47/00
G01L 1/24
Abstract:
A method for determining an integrity of a connection includes applying a high-contrast material to a connection between a first tubular and a second tubular. A torque is applied to the first tubular. Applying the torque to the first tubular includes rotating the first tubular relative to the second tubular to establish the connection. A change in pattern of the high-contrast material in analyzed, while the torque is applied to the first tubular, using a strain detection tool that does not contact the connection. A strain at the connection is determined, based at least partially upon analyzing the change in pattern of the high-contrast material. An integrity of the connection is determined, based at least partially upon the strain.

Pipe Wrench

US Patent:
2017037, Dec 28, 2017
Filed:
Apr 6, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/481334
Inventors:
- Houston TX, US
Robert L. Thibodeaux - Lafayette LA, US
Joshua J. Hebert - Breaux Bridge LA, US
John E. Stelly - Breaux Bridge LA, US
Logan E. Smith - Youngsville LA, US
Assignee:
Frank's International, LLC - Houston TX
International Classification:
E21B 19/16
E21B 17/042
Abstract:
A pipe wrench for making-up or breaking-out a threaded connection between a first tubular member and a second tubular member includes an upper wrench assembly with a pair of upper jaw assemblies configured to grip the first tubular member and a lower wrench assembly with a pair of lower jaw assemblies configured to grip the second tubular member. The upper and lower wrench assemblies are concentrically constrained, axially overlap, and radially engage with one another. Each of the upper and lower wrench assemblies independently includes a frame with a curved segment containing an arc at an angle of about 160 to about 200. The upper and lower wrench assemblies are configured to rotate the first tubular member relative to the second tubular member and can have an angle of rotation in a range from about 75 to about 180.

Threaded Connector For Larger Diameter Tubular Members

US Patent:
2014018, Jul 3, 2014
Filed:
Dec 31, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/145565
Inventors:
