Abstract:
Polymers are provided that offer gas hydrate inhibition, salt tolerance, and high cloud point. The polymers are polymerized from at least (A) 50 mole percent or more of a monomer selected from the group consisting of: N-vinyl-2-caprolactam, one of its analogues, and combinations thereof, (B) an alkenyl sulfonic acid monomer, salt thereof, or combinations thereof, and (C) an TV-vinyl amide, a (meth)acrylamide or one of its analogues, or combinations thereof. In one embodiment, the (A) monomer is N-vinyl-2-caprolactam, the (B) monomer is 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid or salt thereof, and the (C) monomer is N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, acrylamide, methacrylamide, or combinations thereof.

Abstract:
A salt-tolerant, thermally-stable rheology modifier and, in particular, a rheology modifier for applications in oilfield well-bore fluids. In accordance with one aspect, the rheology modifier comprises a terpolymer of acrylamide, 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propanesulfonic acid (AMPS) and a long-chain alkyl acrylate wherein the terpolymer is prepared by dispersion polymerization.

Abstract:
What is described herein is an aqueous high-temperature high-pressure (HTHP) stable drilling mud composition comprising (i) about 20 wt. % to about 80 wt. % of 0-60% w/w brine solution; (ii) about 0.1 wt. % to about 3 wt. % of butylated reaction product of p-cresol and dicyclopentadiene, a polymeric hindered phenol based antioxidant; (iii) about 0.1 wt. % to about 10.0 wt. % of triethanol amine, a chelating agent; (iv) (a) about 0.1 wt. % to about 10 wt. % of rheology modifier (RM); and/or (b) about 0.5 wt. % to about 30 wt. % of fluid loss additive (FLA); (v) about 20 wt. % to about 80 wt. % of weighting agent; (vi) about 0 wt. % to about 20 wt. % of drilling solid; and (vii) about 0 wt. % to about 50 wt % of water.
