F02G 3/00
F02C 7/00
US Classification:
60267, 60 39093, 60779, 244134 R
Abstract:
A heat transfer system is provided for a turbine engine of the type including an annular casing with an array of thermally conductive, generally radially-extending strut members disposed therein. The heat transfer system includes at least one arcuate heat pipe disposed in contact with an outer surface of the casing within fore-and-aft limits of the axial extent of the strut members. The heat pipe is thermally coupled to a heat source, such that heat from the heat source can be transferred through the heat pipe and the casing to the strut members.

Heat Transfer System And Method For Turbine Engine Using Heat Pipes

US Patent:

F02G 3/00
B64D 15/02
US Classification:
60267, 60779, 60 39093, 244134 B
Abstract:
A heat transfer system is provided for a turbine engine of the type including an annular casing with an array of generally radially-extending strut members disposed therein. The heat transfer system includes at least one primary heat pipe disposed at least partially inside a selected one of the strut members; at least one secondary heat pipe disposed outside the fan casing and thermally coupled to the at least one primary heat pipe and to a heat source. Heat from the heat source can be transferred through the secondary heat pipe to the primary heat pipe and to the selected strut member.

Heat Transfer System For Turbine Engine Using Heat Pipes

US Patent:
8015788, Sep 13, 2011
Filed:
Dec 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/616555
Inventors:
Justin P. Stephenson - Cincinnati OH, US
Thomas Ory Moniz - Loveland OH, US
Kattalaicheri Srinivasan Venkataramani - West Chester OH, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F02C 7/047
US Classification:
60 39093, 415114, 415175, 415178
Abstract:
A heat transfer system is provided for a turbine engine of the type including an annular inlet cowling. The heat transfer system includes at least one heat pipe disposed in contact with an interior of the casing. The heat pipe is thermally coupled to a heat source, such that heat from the heat source can be transferred through the heat pipe and into the inlet cowling.

Gas Turbine Engine Fan Assembly And Method For Assembling To Same

US Patent:
8016561, Sep 13, 2011
Filed:
Jul 11, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/456644
Inventors:
Thomas Ory Moniz - Loveland OH, US
Jorge Francisco Seda - Cincinnati OH, US
Justin Paul Stephenson - Blue Ash OH, US
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
F01D 5/18
US Classification:
416 97R, 415115, 415119
Abstract:
A method for operating a turbofan engine includes providing a first fan disk configured to rotate in a first rotational direction, coupling a first fan blade to the first fan disk, the first fan blade including a dovetail, an airfoil coupled to the dovetail, and a plurality of channels extending through the dovetail, and channeling airflow through the at least one fan blade such that the airflow is discharged from the airfoil trailing edge to facilitate reducing the operational noise level of the turbofan engine and improve.
