The system comprises a database system, a first computer system capable of accessing the database system, and a second computer system also capable of accessing the database system. A user accesses a first website hosted by the first computer system, and a session is initialized for the user. A profile object is created for the user and serialized. The serialized profile object is subsequently stored in the database system with a key. The second computer system queries the database system in order to retrieve the serialized profile object matching the key. The second computer deserializes the profile object and restores the session at the second website together with shared session information.

Computer Assisted And/Or Implemented Process And System For Managing And/Or Providing A Medical Information Portal For Healthcare Providers

US Patent:
2004007, Apr 22, 2004
Filed:
Mar 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/390166
Inventors:
Sean Dippold - Schwenksville PA, US
Melanie Kittrell - Maple Glen PA, US
Keith Bauer - Souderton PA, US
Lori Moore - Lafayette Hill PA, US
Assignee:
Merck & Co., Inc. - Rahway NJ
International Classification:
G06F017/60
US Classification:
705/001000
Abstract:
The invention provides a method, system, and computer program device for a medical information portal, providing a key to medical content on the internet. The invention may include one or more of the following sets of tools, in which various resources are organized in a manner which is intuitive for a healthcare professional: diagnostic tools for research of diseases, learning tools for professional development, patient tools for patient resources, technology tools on using health technology, news and updates tools, quick-reference tools, and/or electronic assistant tools. According to an aspect of the present invention, healthcare resources may be accessed via the Internet. Optionally, the system includes user registration data for each user, and certain resources may be restricted to appropriate users. The system advantageously provides, utilizing the sets of tools, a unified and organized access to a wide variety of a large number of resources that would otherwise be too confusing and/or unwieldy to access, especially in its entirety.

Computer Assisted And/Or Implemented Process And System For Searching And Producing Source-Specific Sets Of Search Results And A Site Search Summary Box

US Patent:
2004007, Apr 22, 2004
Filed:
Mar 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/390165
Inventors:
Sean Dippold - Schwenksville PA, US
Melanie Kittrell - Maple Glen PA, US
Keith Bauer - Souderton PA, US
Lori Moore - Lafayette Hill PA, US
Assignee:
Merck & Co., Inc. - Rahway NJ
International Classification:
G06F017/60
US Classification:
705/002000
Abstract:
The invention provides a method, system, and computer program device for an embedded search with site search summary. The search provides an easy-to-navigate user interface that is also intuitive for healthcare professionals, for specifying the search request, and for displaying the search results together with a site search summary. In order to specify the search request, the user enters the keyword or phrase of interest and chooses a category of resources in which to search, where the categories correspond to physician-intuitive groupings of types of resources. A search specific results page including a site search summary box and initially indicating search results within category is returned, both of which thereby provide a number of possibilities for drill down. In this way, the search results may be provided in top levels divided into categories; search results returned may be provided for a particular category; search results returned may be provided from a single resource, listed in order by a predefined preference (e.g., relevance); an item returned in the search results may be reviewed; and/or the sources returning results may be listed, e.g., in the site search summary.

Computer Assisted And /Or Implemented Process And System For Conducting Searches In Healthcare Provider Medical Information Portals

US Patent:
2005010, May 19, 2005
Filed:
Aug 23, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/923008
Inventors:
Sean Dippold - Schwenksville PA, US
Melanie Kittrell - Maple Glen PA, US
Keith Bauer - Souderton PA, US
Lori Moore - Lafayette Hill PA, US
Assignee:
Merck & Co., Inc. - Rahway NJ
International Classification:
G06F017/30
US Classification:
707003000
Abstract:
A method, system, and computer program device implements a search in, for example, a healthcare provider medical information portal. For example, instead of having to type or key a search item into an interface, the search may be conducted, automatically, for data records relevant to the item by executing a search query event. More particularly, the search query event identifies the item, which may be displayed in a user interface, to be searched. In addition to identifying the item, the search query event also initiates the search. In one example, the search query event includes positioning a cursor over a phrase, term or other item displayed on a webpage and clicking a mouse button. The present invention requires fewer interactions to execute a search. The search technique may be implemented with any type of portal.
