System, Device, And Method For Selecting A Channel In A Multichannel Communication Network

US Patent:
6700875, Mar 2, 2004
Filed:
Mar 31, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/052224
Inventors:
Stephen Schroeder - Stoughton MA
Keith M. Conger - Foxborough MA
Richard Wade - Mansfield MA
Michael Jaimie Cooper - Marietta GA
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
H04J 116
US Classification:
370252, 370437
Abstract:
In a system, device, and method for selecting a channel from among a plurality of channels, a number of available channels are selected for testing. A channel quality measurement is made for each of the number of available channels. The channel having the best channel quality measurement is then selected. To make the channel quality measurements, a primary station selects a channel to be tested and also selects a secondary station with which to perform the test. The primary station transmits a control frame to the selected secondary station, including a channel identifier identifying the selected channel. Upon receiving the control frame, the selected secondary station adjusts its transmitter to the selected channel based on the channel identifier in the control frame, and transmits a reference signal on the selected channel. Meanwhile, the primary station adjusts its receiver to the selected channel and receives the reference signal from the selected secondary station. The primary station then measures the quality of the received reference signal.

Inserting Out-Of-Band Data Into In-Band Data Streams

US Patent:
2012028, Nov 8, 2012
Filed:
May 3, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/100035
Inventors:
Shiping Li - Acton MA, US
Tolga Asveren - Bordentown NJ, US
Keith M. Conger - Foxboro MA, US
Ronald V. Grippo - Red Bank NJ, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/66
US Classification:
370352
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for inserting an out-of-band signaling packet into a real-time protocol (RTP) stream is provided. The method includes receiving the out-of-band signaling packet intended for transmission to a user device and forming a synthesized packet based on payload information from the out-of-band signaling packet and header information stored in a data structure describing the RTP stream. The method also includes inserting the synthesized packet into the RTP stream. The method further includes receiving an RTP packet intended for transmission to the user device via the RTP stream, analyzing an insertion sequence number and an insertion flag maintained in the data structure, and discarding or forwarding the RTP packet via the RTP stream based on the analyzing.

Method And Processor For Reducing Computational Error In A Processor Having No Rounding Support

US Patent:
6401107, Jun 4, 2002
Filed:
Nov 3, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/433632
Inventors:
Jian Yang - Mansfield MA
Keith Conger - Foxborough MA
Assignee:
Motorola, Inc. - Schaumburg IL
International Classification:
G06F 738
US Classification:
708551, 708497
Abstract:
In a chain of linear time-invariant operations ( ), all bias introduced between operations collectively produce a total deterministic error at the final output of the chain of operations ( ). In the present invention, truncation is used in place of rounding after each operation by simply not rounding in software. Recognizing that all the bias introduced by replacing rounding with truncation results in a single deterministic error at the final output, in the present invention the total bias ( ) is predetermined and subtracted from each data sample of the final output sequence.
