Inspection Device And Method For Cylindrical Work Pieces

US Patent:
4535545, Aug 20, 1985
Filed:
Nov 21, 1983
Appl. No.:
6/554036
Inventors:
Larry H. Becnel - West Covina CA
Assignee:
General Dynamics, Pomona Division - Pomona CA
International Classification:
A61B 508
US Classification:
33550
Abstract:
A holding fixture and method for using the same are disclosed which enable great accuracy in performing measurements of concentricity, diameter, and wall thickness of a cylindrical workpiece. The present invention supports the workpiece for rotation at two fixed locations characterized by orthogonal tangents, while making measurements at a location on the workpiece on the opposite side of one of the support locations. The device is simple and economical in construction, easy to use while providing reliable measurements of the specified parameters, and it improves production line operation by expediting particular measuring procedures.

Carton Liner Removal Tongs

US Patent:
4149743, Apr 17, 1979
Filed:
Mar 31, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/892234
Inventors:
Larry H. Becnel - West Covina CA
Assignee:
General Dynamics Corporation - Pomona CA
International Classification:
B65G 712
US Classification:
294 26
Abstract:
A pair of carton liner removal tongs for use in removing carton liners from cartons includes an elongated shaft portion with a knife blade like hook extending outward from one end and a looped handle at the other end extending on the opposite side of the shaft from the hook. The tongs are used in removing a liner from a carton by first inserting the hook end of the tong downward between the walls of the liner and carton on opposite sides of the liner. The handles of the respective tong members are then brought together above the carton liner and grasped by one hand for pulling the liner upward and out of the carton.

Toggle Latch Opening And Closing Tool

US Patent:
4236427, Dec 2, 1980
Filed:
Mar 19, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/021520
Inventors:
Larry H. Becnel - West Covina CA
Assignee:
General Dynamics Corporation Pomona Division - Pomona CA
International Classification:
B25B 2700
US Classification:
81 3R
Abstract:
The improved tool of the present invention is adapted to open and close efficiently and rapidly at least two types of widely used container toggle latches, one type having a latch handle in the form of a flat tongue and the other type having a hollow, generally tubular, open-ended latch handle. The improved tool comprises a generally L-shaped shank formed of first and second diverging legs integrally joined together at one end, and a handle secured to the free rear end of the first leg. The second leg, which is generally vertical in usual use, depends from the generally horizontal front end of the first leg; and the free end of the second leg is configured into a spaced, generally vertical pair of tines of unequal length. The shorter tine is closer to the handle. The handle may be large to readily fit the hand.
