Filter Including Temperature And Pressure Responsive Bypass

US Patent:
6544412, Apr 8, 2003
Filed:
Oct 23, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/045573
Inventors:
Larry Dean Michels - Olney IL
John D. Gaither - West Salem IL
Assignee:
Champion Laboratories, Inc. - Albion IL
International Classification:
B01D 35147
US Classification:
210130, 210149, 210440, 210137
Abstract:
A thermal sensitive material is disposed between a spring valve and an end cap of an oil filter (FIG. ). Upon reaching a predetermined pressure, e. g. when the media of the oil filter becomes clogged, an opening in the end cap opens to allow the oil to bypass the filter media. However, the thermal sensitive material precludes bypass flow through the end cap (e. g. during initial operation of the engine when a pressure surge may occur) until a predetermined oil temperature is attained.

End Cap Relief Valve Mechanism For A Filter

US Patent:
6585887, Jul 1, 2003
Filed:
Mar 28, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/820267
Inventors:
Larry Dean Michels - Olney IL
John D. Gaither - West Salem IL
Richard Schwarzlose - West Salem IL
Assignee:
Champion Laboratories, Inc. - West Salem IL
International Classification:
B01D 35147
US Classification:
210130, 210132, 210440, 210DIG 17, 210136, 137340
Abstract:
An oil filter includes a housing having an end plate attached to the open end thereof. The end plate includes an outlet opening and inlet openings An anti-drainback valve is provided adjacent the end plate. A filter element having an end cap at each end is positioned within the housing. The end cap remote from the end plate includes a plurality of openings spaced from a closed central portion A spring valve cooperates with the end cap and the interior wall of the housing to alternately allow and disallow oil flow through the end cap openings depending upon the differential pressure across the end cap The spring valve and the end cap can be operationally interengage to provide a relatively flat profile. Depressions (FIG. ) may be included between the arms of the spring valve to provide a flow path should the spring valve be flattened against the housing during operation of the filter.

Fluid Filter Assembly

US Patent:
7175761, Feb 13, 2007
Filed:
Nov 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/715682
Inventors:
Kris S. Stanhope - Browns IL, US
Ronald L. Kinkade - West Salem IL, US
Kent C. Stanhope - Albion IL, US
Larry Dean Michels - Olney IL, US
John W. Stockhowe - Carmi IL, US
Assignee:
Champion Laboratories, Inc. - Albion IL
International Classification:
B01D 35/147
US Classification:
210130, 210136, 210420, 2104331, 210443, 210450
Abstract:
A filter assembly has a housing open at one end, with an annular filter media/core assembly disposed in the housing. An end plate having at least two inlet openings and an outlet opening is disposed in the open end of the housing. The end plate is affixed to a lid which is secured to the end of the housing. A combination valve is retained between the filter media/core assembly and the end plate. The combination valve has a first portion that cooperates with the first inlet opening in the end plate and a second portion cooperating with the second inlet opening. In use fluid will pass through the first inlet opening, the filter media/core assembly and be discharged from the housing through the outlet opening. When the filter media begins to clog, pressure will build and upon attainment of a predetermined pressure the second portion will open the second inlet opening and fluid flow can pass through the second inlet opening to the outlet opening, for discharge from the filter assembly and return to the engine, thereby bypassing the filter media. A spring is disposed between the end of the filter media remote from the end plate and the housing for biasing the filter media/core assembly toward the end plate to retain the combination valve in place.

Non-Metallic Spin-On Filter

US Patent:
5772881, Jun 30, 1998
Filed:
Nov 8, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/746430
Inventors:
John W. Stockhowe - Carmi IL
Larry Dean Michels - Olney IL
Assignee:
Champion Laboratories, Inc. - Albion IL
International Classification:
B01D 2708
US Classification:
210440
Abstract:
A plastic oil filter comprises a cup-shaped shell with an open end. The shell contains an annular filter media with an elongated opening therethrough. A backplate is positioned in the open end of the shell. An elongated core is positioned in the opening in the filter media. The core is hollow and has a plurality of openings in the walls thereof. A plurality of longitudinally spaced annular rings are formed on the outer surface of the core. Fluid to be filtered can pass through openings in the backplate into the space between the shell and the filter media, through the filter media to be filtered, through the openings in the walls of the core, into the flow passage in the core, and exit from the filter through the flow passage in the core. Sealing washers are provided at each end of the filter media for preventing undesired flow between the core and the ID of the respective sealing washers. Spring structure is formed on the core.

Mobility Device Restraining Apparatus

US Patent:
2023002, Jan 26, 2023
Filed:
Oct 3, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/958626
Inventors:
- Mount Carmel IN, US
Michael Evans - Mount Carmel IL, US
Luke Turpin - Mount Carmel IL, US
Larry Dean Michels - Mount Carmel IL, US
International Classification:
A61G 3/06
A61G 3/02
A61G 3/08
Abstract:
A restraint apparatus for securing a mobility device in a vehicle includes a base configured to being mounted to a floor of the vehicle, a support coupled to the base and extending upward therefrom, and a backing plate adjustably coupled to the support. The backing plate defines a channel to provide vertical adjustment of the backing plate with respect to the support. An upper support is pivotally coupled to the backing plate, and a claw assembly is coupled to the upper support. The claw assembly includes a claw member and a latching member, where the latching member is pivotally coupled to the claw member to enable pivotal movement between an unlatched position and a latched position. A control system operably controls the pivotal movement of the latching member between its latched position to its unlatched positions. In the unlatched position, the claw assembly provides an opening for receiving the device.
