Apparatus And System For Dampening The Vibration Experienced By An Object

US Patent:
8194815, Jun 5, 2012
Filed:
Mar 30, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/414129
Inventors:
Norbert B. Wroblewski - Wilmington NC, US
Michael S. DeFilippis - Wilmington NC, US
Lee J. Andre - Carolina Beach NC, US
Assignee:
GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas, LLC - Wilmington NC
International Classification:
G21C 9/00
US Classification:
376285, 376277, 376260
Abstract:
An embodiment of the present invention may reduce the level of vibration experienced by a line, such as, but not limiting of, a pipe, a cable, tubing, or the like, that is connected to at least one separate structure. For example, but not limiting of, the structure includes: a reactor pressure vessel, a sparger pipe, steam generator, a pipe, a pressure vessel, a heat exchanger, a pump, a condenser, a tank, or the like. An embodiment of the present invention may provide support and a preload to the line at a new location or may replace an existing support, such as, but not limiting of, a weld; which may alter the natural frequencies to avoid resonance from occurring when the structure(s) is excited.

Method And Apparatus For A Jet Pump Slip Joint Internal Seal

US Patent:
8475139, Jul 2, 2013
Filed:
Sep 7, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/876567
Inventors:
Robin D. Sprague - Wilmington NC, US
Lee J. Andre - Wilmington NC, US
Assignee:
GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas LLC - Wilmington NC
International Classification:
F04F 5/44
F16L 21/00
US Classification:
417151, 285374, 285917, 277644, 277603
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for a Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) jet pump slip joint internal seal for an interface between an inlet mixer and a diffuser of a jet pump assembly. The internal seal effectively mitigates leakage and slip joint flow induced vibration (FIV) between the inlet mixer and diffuser to reduce damage to many of the jet pump assembly components. A metallic seal of the slip joint internal seal flares out to conform the internal seal to a range of gap sizes, and compresses or springs back to nominal dimensions as thermal expansion and contraction occurs. The internal seal is self-expanding/self-tightening, as the internal seal flares further outward as a result of the internal pressure caused by flowing fluids in an operating jet pump assembly.

Mechanical Connections And Methods

US Patent:
2013030, Nov 21, 2013
Filed:
May 16, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/472701
Inventors:
Lee J. ANDRE - Wilmington NC, US
Assignee:
GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy Americas LLC - Wilmington NC
International Classification:
G21C 15/18
B23P 11/00
G21C 15/22
US Classification:
376282, 403 53, 29428
Abstract:
A mechanical connection between adjacent components of a system may include a first component of the system, a second component of the system, and a multiple degree-of-freedom connection between the first and second components. The multiple degree-of-freedom connection may have at least four degrees of freedom. A method for establishing a mechanical connection between adjacent components of a system may include disposing a first component of the system adjacent to a second component of the system, and connecting the first component to the second component using a multiple degree-of-freedom connection. The multiple degree-of-freedom connection may have at least four degrees of freedom.

Dredge With Improved Auger Shroud

US Patent:
6318005, Nov 20, 2001
Filed:
Jun 16, 2000
Appl. No.:
9/595646
Inventors:
Lee Andre - Baltimore MD
Assignee:
Ellicott Machine Corporation International - Baltimore MD
International Classification:
E02F 322
US Classification:
37329
Abstract:
A dredge supporting a pivotal ladder with a suction auger on its free end. A shroud assembly including front, center and rear sections surrounds a large portion of the periphery of the auger. The shroud assembly is pivotal about the axis of the auger and the front and rear sections are each independently pivotal relative to the center section so that the center section can be maintained at a relatively constant attitude independent of the inclination of the ladder and only a leading one of the front and rear sections, depending on the direction of movement of the dredge, is necessarily opened while the trailing section can remain closed adjacent to the auger. The articulation of the several shroud sections enables the suction auger head to operate in both directions with reduced turbidity and, therefore, increased efficiency.

Method And Apparatus For Reparing A Jet Pump Slip Joint

US Patent:
2017015, Jun 8, 2017
Filed:
Dec 2, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/956909
Inventors:
LEE JOHN ANDRE - WILMINGTON NC, US
JACK TOSHIO MATSUMOTO - SAN JOSE CA, US
Assignee:
GE-HITACHI NUCLEAR ENERGY AMERICAS LLC - WILMINGTON NC
International Classification:
F16L 23/036
F16L 55/18
Abstract:
A jet pump slip joint repair assembly includes at least one clamp and a bushing configured to be inserted in a bore of a diffuser and to surround a portion of an inlet mixer. The clamp includes a gripping surface and a gripping collar. The bushing includes a generally cylindrical sidewall, the sidewall configured to surround the portion of the inlet mixer, a grooved flange on an upper surface of the sidewall, at least one cutout between adjacent portions of the grooved flange, and a groove on an inner, bottom surface of the sidewall. The assembly also includes a seal in the groove. The seal is flexible and formed of a metallic material. The seal is configured to be compressed when the at least one clamp engages the bushing.
