A plastic-molded automotive interior trim component has a curvilinear finished surface with a relatively flat portion and a relatively curved portion. A decorative film subcomponent has an outer surface and an inner surface, wherein at least the outer surface is pigmented with a desired color of the finished surface. Prior to incorporation into the plastic molded component, the decorative film subcomponent has a shape generally conforming to the curvilinear finished surface and is substantially smooth. A structural backing member is in-mold laminated with the decorative film subcomponent, wherein the structural backing member is formed by injection molding a backing material against the inner surface of the decorative film subcomponent in a mold having a film-receiving surface with a three-dimensional texture that receives the decorative film subcomponent. The texture shapes the decorative film subcomponent with an embossed pattern having a substantially uniform, undistorted appearance on at least part of the relatively flat portion and at least part of the relatively curved portion.

A vehicle door assembly is disclosed herein. The vehicle door assembly includes a door. A trim panel has a mount that defines an aperture. A clip that includes a base is coupled to the door. A retainer is coupled to the base and is configured to extend through the aperture defined by the mount to an assembled position, the retainer has an upper portion that is coupled to a lower portion at a vertex to form a projection. A retention feature is coupled to the upper portion and has a ramp. A stop is coupled to the ramp and extends generally downward therefrom to the upper portion. The stop is configured to engage with a back side of the mount to generally prevent the movement of the retainer out of the aperture when the retainer is in the assembled position.

A steering column for autonomous vehicles includes a powered actuator controlling rotation of a lower column, an inner column, and an upper column that is movable relative to the lower and inner columns. Rotation of the lower column relative to the upper column moves the upper column lengthwise. A powered lock rotatably interconnects the inner and lower columns when in a first position, and locks the inner column to a base when in a second position. In an autonomous mode, the upper column is stowed, the powered lock is in the first position, and the motor inhibits rotation of the lower column. In a manual mode, the upper column is extended, the powered lock is in the second position, and a sensor detects an angular position of the upper column.
