Job Skills I have worked as a medical assistant since completion of my medical assisting program at National Education Center Bryman Campus in 1991. Utilizing my phlebotomy skills • I first worked as a phlebotomist at a blood bank until 1994. In pursuit of obtaining my certification I later sat for and obtained my first A.A.M.A. certification in 1995 • in which I have remained current ever since. I have currently worked at Dreyer Medical Clinic since 2003. I started out in Family Practice • then moving to Internal Medicine • and transferring to Nephrology • where I have currently been since 2007. As of 2007 • I have e worked in the Dreyer Oswego/Yorkville • nephrology Dept. Assigned one on one • with a nephrologist • assisting him with all patient care needs. This includes travelling with him from site to site. My job responsibility entails rooming patients • includes verifying and updating their medications • allergies • etc. and full vital signs into EMR. Triage of all incoming and outgoing calls • scheduling patients for hospital • routine follow ups • all work-in appointments • and clinical visits. Preparation of new patient charts and retrieval of medical records required for their office visit. On Friday's when my provider is out of the office I am responsible for covering his incoming • paging him as needed. I also help out in other departments assigned • fluctuating between Endocrinology • Internal Medicine Triage • and Family practice when necessary. Administrative duties include placing referrals • preparation of paperwork for start of hemodialysis • kidney transplant centers • ordering and scheduling of any routine tests that the patient may require. This includes specialty procedures • but is not limited to • CT guided kidney biopsies • nephrostomy tube exchange • paracentesis • placement of Intra-Jugular Quinton Catheter • permacath placement • consults for vein mapping for placement of A.V. Fistula and for CAPD ( Continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) catheter • plasmapheresis • IV Hydration with Mucomyst prior to CT exams • administration of Procrit in office • blood transfusion • I/V. Venofer of Ferrlecit • coordination of hemodialysis referrals Also obtaining Procrit for a patient • which entails calling and checking patient's insurance benefits for proper authorization and dispensing of the medication for self-administration. Vital signs and clinical duties include: BP • P • R • T. • Ht. • Wt. HC • orthostatic vital signs • and O2Sat%. Lab tests: Urinalysis Chem-strip • micro and culture. Rapid strep testing and Fact Plus urine/serum Beta-HCG testing. Phlebotomy skills include whole blood collection and operation of Plateletpheresis machine. Venipuncture skills include infant • child • and adult. Patient care and clinical duties includes: set-up of patients for treatment of; Well baby exams • Gyne exams • CPE • Procto-sigmoidoscopies • Colposcopies • LEEP Procedure • Cryo-therapy • Minor surgical procedures • Dermatologic procedures • suture removals • set up with use of Hyfracter • Podiatric • Unna boots • foot soaks • Pulmonary procedures • with use of peak flow meter and nebulizer treatments. Lab skills include set-up and paperwork. This includes requisition and accession log notation along with quality control assurance • HIPAA • O.S.H.A • and C.L.I.A. guidelines. Injections: I.M. -delt. • VL • Gluteal Deep I.M. and Z-Track 90 Degree angle • Sub-Q. -arm and thigh 45 degree angle and Intradermal Wheel technique 10 degree angle forearm. I am experienced using these techniques for routine immunizations • I.M. antibiotic • Depo Provera • Kenalog • testosterone • uncontrolled and controlled administration of medication.
