Methods And Apparatus To Couple An Electro-Pneumatic Controller To A Position Transmitter In A Process Control System

US Patent:
2010026, Oct 21, 2010
Filed:
Apr 15, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/424347
Inventors:
Stephen George Seberger - Marshalltown IA, US
Steven William Hagen - Marshalltown IA, US
Lorin Dion Miller - Colo IA, US
International Classification:
G05B 11/10
US Classification:
318671
Abstract:
Example methods and apparatus to couple an electro-pneumatic controller to a position transmitter in a process control system are disclosed. A disclosed example apparatus includes a position transmitter having a first connection and having a second connection coupled to a power source, an electro-pneumatic controller including at least a first connection coupled to the first connection of the position transmitter, and a resistor coupled between the first connection and a second connection of the electro-pneumatic controller.

Valve Positioner With Overpressure Protection Capabilities

US Patent:
2017002, Jan 26, 2017
Filed:
Oct 10, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/289723
Inventors:
- Marshalltown IA, US
Lorin Dion Miller - Colo IA, US
Jimmie Lee Snowbarger - Marshalltown IA, US
Adam Joseph Wittkop - Marshalltown IA, US
International Classification:
G05D 16/20
F16K 31/42
Abstract:
A method of limiting control pressure provided to an actuator of a valve coupled to a valve positioner, a drive signal is provided to a pneumatic stage of the valve positioner. The pneumatic stage is arranged to control output pressure of the valve positioner in accordance with the drive signal. A pressure measurement from a pressure sensor communicatively coupled to the valve positioner is obtained, and an abnormal pressure is detected based on the pressure measurement. In response to detecting the abnormal pressure, the drive signal is controlled so as to limit the output pressure of the valve positioner, wherein the output pressure provides control pressure to the actuator.

Valve Positioner With Overpressure Protection Capabilities

US Patent:
2015019, Jul 9, 2015
Filed:
Jan 9, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/151585
Inventors:
- Marshalltown IA, US
Lorin Dorin Miller - Colo IA, US
James Lee Snowbarger - Marshalltown IA, US
Adam Joseph Wittkop - Marshalltown IA, US
Assignee:
FISHER CONTROLS INTERNATIONAL LLC - Marshalltown IA
International Classification:
G05D 7/06
Abstract:

Wireless Position Transducer For A Valve

US Patent:
2014014, May 29, 2014
Filed:
Nov 21, 2013
Appl. No.:
14/086102
Inventors:
- Marshalltown IA, US
Lorin Dion Miller - Colo IA, US
Assignee:
FISHER CONTROLS INTERNATIONAL LLC - Marshalltown IA
International Classification:
F16K 37/00
US Classification:
137551, 137 1
Abstract:
A wireless position transducer for a valve in a process control system converts a motion or a position of an actuator of the valve into a wireless signal including a value indicative of the position of the actuator. The transducer causes the wireless signal to be transmitted over a wireless communication channel to a valve controller, such as by using a wireless HART protocol. The wireless communication channel is an exclusive connection between the transducer and the controller, and the transducer is powered by a local rechargeable energy storage device. The controller controls the valve based on the value included in the wireless signal. The transducer may also cause the wireless signal to be transmitted to a control host of the process control system.
