Process For Purifying N-Phosphonomethylglycine

US Patent:
5087740, Feb 11, 1992
Filed:
Jul 30, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/561483
Inventors:
Lowell R. Smith - Kirkwood MO
Assignee:
Monsanto Company - St. Louis MO
International Classification:
C07F 938
US Classification:
562 17
Abstract:
N-Phosphonomethylglycine can be purified and concentrated from aqueous solutions containing N-phosphonomethylglycine and impurities, such as N-formyl-N-phosphonomethylglycine, phosphorous acid, and the like, by passing the aqueous solution through an ion exchange column containing a weakly basic ion exchange resin to remove such impurities.

Process For The Preparation Of Glyphosate And Glyphosate Derivatives

US Patent:
5578190, Nov 26, 1996
Filed:
Apr 7, 1995

International Classification:
C07F 938
C07F 940
C25B 300
US Classification:
205436
Abstract:
A process for preparing glyphosate and other secondary amines of related structure in which a precursor primary amine such as aminomethylphosphonic acid is condensed with glyoxylic acid, or a related aldehyde compound, and the condensation product reduced without isolation to produce the desired product.

Abstract:
The invention disclosed herein relates to a process for producing heterocyclic ethanolamines, especially 2-(2-furyl)ethanolamine.

Use Of Monosodium Iminodiacetic Acid Solutions In The Preparation Of N-Phosphonomethyliminodiacetic Acid

US Patent:
5986128, Nov 16, 1999
Filed:
Nov 1, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/742523
Inventors:
Lowell Richard Smith - Kirkwood MO
Assignee:
Monsanto Company - St. Louis MO
International Classification:
C07F 938
C07C22924
US Classification:
562 17
Abstract:
A method is described for making solution stable salts of iminodiacetic acid (IDA), useful as precursors in the manufacture of N-phosphonomethylglycine. Concentrated dialkali salts of IDA which are insoluble at temperatures below about 55. degree. C. , such as the disodium salt (DSIDA) are acidified to monoalkali salts, such as monosodium IDA (MSIDA). The resulting salts are stable in solution, and may conveniently be stored or transported in solution without recourse to dilution, heating, or similar measures.
