Water Treatment Method And Apparatus

US Patent:
2013008, Apr 4, 2013
Filed:
Jun 22, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/703793
Inventors:
Edward Robakowski - Brecksville OH, US
Mark J. Brotman - Burton OH, US
Keith Brown - Solon OH, US
International Classification:
C02F 1/42
US Classification:
210662, 210263
Abstract:
A water treatment system includes a weak acid cation resin where a portion of the feed water is exposed to the resin and then blended with untreated feed water to produce a stream of water with reduced mineral scaling and potential. Feed water is split into a first fluid stream, fed to a bypass conduit and a second fluid stream that is conveyed through a weak acid cation treatment bed. After passing through the bed, the treated fluid is combined with the bypass fluid stream to produce a blended feed water at the outlet. The ratio of the bypass fluid stream and treated fluid stream is a function of pH and L.S.I. A controller and associated sensors may control the relative flow rates between the bypass fluid stream and the treated stream to maintain a predetermined water parameter such pH, L.S.I., etc. within a predetermined range.

Process For Re-Mineralizing Water Deficient In Magnesium

US Patent:
2011010, May 5, 2011
Filed:
May 1, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/990230
Inventors:
Mark Brotman - Burton OH, US
International Classification:
B01D 61/10
US Classification:
210202
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the process of re-mineralizing treated potable water that has had hardness components removed by dissolving a magnesium compound in the treated water. The resulting concentration of magnesium, pH level and alkalinity level are controlled by the inclusion of a calcium compound such as calcium carbonate and a bypass orifice. The bypass orifice allows a portion of pretreated wafer to bypass a filter that contains the magnesium compound. The process is particularly useful as an in-line process for continuous or semi-continuous treatment of water. The preferred magnesium and calcium compounds include magnesium phosphate dibasic trihydrate and calcium carbonate, respectively.

Water Treatment System

US Patent:
2014011, May 1, 2014
Filed:
Jun 21, 2012
Appl. No.:
14/126562
Inventors:
Stuart L. Park - Chardon OH, US
Jerome P. Kovach - Chagrin Falls OH, US
Mark J. Brotman - Burton OH, US
Jimmie L. Hunt - Girard OH, US
International Classification:
B01D 35/147
US Classification:
210 85, 210340, 210203
Abstract:
A water treatment system having an inlet for receiving water to be treated and a manifold that defines a pair of fluid streams communicating with the inlet. A valve module carried by the manifold controls the communication of water at the inlet with treatment cartridges and with a common outlet. The valve module includes a valve member that is movable between two positions such that, in one position, the valve member communicates each fluid stream with an associated cartridge and, in a second position, communicates the inlet with the common outlet and bypasses the cartridges. A remotely mounted cartridge depletion indicator is provided that includes a linkage that is magnetically coupled to a stem assembly located within a flow metering mechanism. Movement in the internal stem assembly is transferred via the magnetically coupled external linkage to a cartridge depletion indicator visible to the operator.
