Medical-Treatment Electrode Assembly Having Treatment-Monitoring Application

US Patent:
7407503, Aug 5, 2008
Filed:
Dec 21, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/017893
Inventors:
Mark DiFrancesco - Loveland OH, US
Assignee:
Ethicon Endo-Surgey, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61B 18/18
A61B 5/04
US Classification:
606 41, 600372
Abstract:
A medical-treatment electrode assembly includes at least three spaced-apart electrodes contactable with patient tissue and includes at least three leads electrically connected one each to a corresponding one of the electrodes. The leads are electrically connectable to a medical radio-frequency (RF) generator.

Method And Device For Minimally Invasive Implantation Of Biomaterial

US Patent:
7780973, Aug 24, 2010
Filed:
Dec 15, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/736421
Inventors:
Lynetta Jean Freeman - West Chester OH, US
Mark W. DiFrancesco - Loveland OH, US
Assignee:
Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61F 2/02
US Classification:
424423
Abstract:
A minimally invasive method of placing a delivery device substantially adjacent to vascular tissue and a device for use with such a method are disclosed. The delivery device may be a flexible biological construct with a flexible tethering means. The delivery device may be percutaneously inserted near vascular tissue such as, for example, peritoneal tissue. When the delivery device has been inserted, the tether may be used to pull the delivery device toward the vascular tissue and secure the device thereto. Contact between the front surface of the delivery device and the vascular tissue may be maintained by making and keeping the tether substantially taut. The delivery device may serve accomplish sustained delivery of active agents.

Guidance Method For Radiation Detection

US Patent:
6331703, Dec 18, 2001
Filed:
Mar 12, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/266961
Inventors:
Stephen T. Yarnall - Poway CA
Mark W. DiFrancesco - Loveland OH
Assignee:
Ethicon Endo-Surgery, Inc. - Cincinnati OH
International Classification:
A61B 502
US Classification:
2503361
Abstract:
A non-linear guidance method for radiation detection is described herein wherein a heuristic non-linear radiation detection method is utilized is for the location of sentinel nodes for staging cancer. The method of radiation detection described herein includes the steps of: Generating radiation decay rate counts wherein the counts are a sum of detected radiation decay events over a time interval; loading the counts into an array; summing selected elements of the array to generate a total count and a plurality of candidate counts; comparing the total count to one of the candidate counts to determine whether the one of the candidate counts is statistically different from the total count; using the statistically different one of the candidate counts as an output count rate; and generating an output signal using the output count rate to determine the characteristics of the output signal.

Method For Non-Invasive Measurement Of Concentration Of Analytes In Blood Using Continuous Spectrum Radiation

US Patent:
5460177, Oct 24, 1995
Filed:
May 7, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/059162
Inventors:
David L. Purdy - Marion Center PA
Perry Palumbo - New Kingston PA
Mark DiFrancesco - Indiana PA
Assignee:
Diasense, Inc. - Indiana PA
International Classification:
A61B 500
US Classification:
128633
Abstract:
Method for non-invasive detection of the concentration of a constituent in blood of a living animal includes the steps of irradiating a body part of the animal with intensity-modulated radiation over a continuous spectrum; determining the intensity of radiation emitted from the body part at wavelength ranges within the continuous spectrum; and using the determined intensity to calculate the concentration of the constituent. A radiation source including a radiating bulb and a chopper for periodically interrupting radiation emitted from the bulb may be provided.
