Abstract:
An evaporative cooling condenser for a household appliance cooling system includes a water source, a heat exchanger configured to contain a refrigerant, and a fluid heat transfer device, the fluid heat transfer device configured to receive water from the water source and apply the water to the heat exchanger for rejecting heat from the heat exchanger.

Methods And Apparatus For Disinfecting And/Or Deodorizing An Article

US Patent:
2008015, Jul 3, 2008
Filed:
Dec 29, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/647834
Inventors:
Anand G. Joshi - Bangalore, IN
Martin Zentner - Louisville KY, US
Eric Watson - Crestwood KY, US
Shrikant Basurtekar - Belgaum, IN
Martin Nicholas Austin - Portage MI, US
International Classification:
A61L 2/00
US Classification:
422 5, 422120
Abstract:
An apparatus includes a cabinet defining a chamber, a drawer slidably positioned within the chamber and movable between an open position and a closed position, the drawer defining a compartment configured to receive a load, in the closed position the drawer coupled to the cabinet and restricting air flow exiting the cabinet. The apparatus includes an ozone generator configured to selectively generate ozone into the compartment, an ozone conversion device configured to selectively convert ozone to oxygen, and a sensor configured to detect a level of ozone within the compartment and generate a signal representative of the level of ozone. A controller is operatively coupled to the ozone generator, the ozone conversion device and the sensor, and is configured to activate one of the ozone generator and the ozone conversion device in response to a signal received from the sensor.

Ice Level Sensing System

US Patent:
2011011, May 19, 2011
Filed:
Nov 13, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/618092
Inventors:
Bryan W. Snider - Louisville KY, US
Martin Nicholas Austin - Louisville KY, US
International Classification:
F25C 1/00
F25C 5/18
F25D 23/02
G01J 1/00
US Classification:
62137, 62344, 62449, 356213
Abstract:
An ice level sensing system for an appliance having a cavity with a cavity wall. An ice storage bin and an ice maker are disposed within the cavity. The ice storage bin is configured to hold ice discharged from the ice maker. The ice level sensing system includes a transmitter for transmitting a light beam and a detector for detecting the light beam. The transmitter and the detector are disposed on the cavity wall. A reflector is disposed relatively remote from the transmitter. The transmitter is operative to project the light beam toward the reflector. The transmitter and the detector are angled relative to each other so that the light beam reflected by the reflector is directed toward the detector.

Low Cost, High Accuracy Ozone Sensing

US Patent:
2011020, Aug 18, 2011
Filed:
Feb 18, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/707750
Inventors:
Eric K. Watson - Crestwood KY, US
John Besore - Prospect KY, US
Subhash Kollengode - Hyderabad, IN
Alexey Vert - Schenectady NY, US

Martin Austin - Portage MI, US
International Classification:
G01N 33/00
B01J 19/00
US Classification:
436135, 422129
Abstract:
An ozone detection system includes a source of sample gas containing a concentration of ozone and a single optical pathway. The system includes a light source in optical communication with the optical pathway. The system further includes a first airflow passageway for receiving a first sample of gas from the source. The passageway includes a catalytic scrubber to reduce ozone content in the sample gas and passing the reduced ozone gas to a sensor. The system further includes a second airflow passageway for receiving a second sample of gas from the source and passing the gas unaltered to a sensor. The system further includes a sensor for sensing independently the light intensity of the sample of gas received from the first and second passageways. The system further includes a processor for receiving the light intensity data from the sensor and calculating the ozone concentration in the source of sample gas.
