Appl. No.:
09/867172
Inventors:
Martin M. Vasas - Fairfield CT
Assignee:
The Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Company - Stratford CT
International Classification:
A45D 4026
US Classification:
132218, 132317
Abstract:
A mascara brush has a twisted wire core with radially extending bristles trimmed to a generally cross-sectional triangular shape. The apex is truncated to form an application surface and a feed groove extends inwardly from the base of the triangular shape, opposite the application surface. First and second combing surfaces flank the feed groove. A first side surface joins the first combing surface at a sharp comb edge and joins the application surface at a first application edge. A second side surface joins the second combing surface at a second sharp combing edge and joins the application surface at a second application edge. The application surface may also be rounded. The core may be curved to provide a convex or concave application surface. The various surfaces and edges provide a very versatile mascara brush.

Abstract:
A cosmetics container for storing and applying a product has a bottle having a neck defining a neck opening to an interior product cavity, the neck having threads on the exterior thereof. A neck insert is mounted in the neck opening, the neck insert including a side wall substantially conforming to the neck opening and providing access to the product cavity. The neck insert includes a dispenser wall deployed between the neck opening and the product cavity and the dispenser wall has at least one supply opening. A cap has interior threads for removably securing the cap on the bottle in a closed position by interengaging the threads on the neck. The cap having a stem extending into the neck insert and an applicator pad mounted to the distal end of the stem. The threads of the neck and the threads of the cap configured to support the cap on the neck prior to threaded engagement of the threads with the applicator pad spaced from the dispenser wall to define a dosing space therebetween. The applicator pad is fabricated of compressed foam and is compressed against the dispenser wall when the cap is threaded to its closed position on the bottle.

A cap is removably threaded onto the neck of the bottle, and a rod extends from the cap through the apertured wiper when the cap is secured on the bottle. The rod has a distal end positioned generally centrally with respect to the continuous sidewall, and a brush is mounted at the distal end of the rod. The brush has a first portion extending outwardly toward the continuous sidewall, and a second portion extending downwardly along the continuous side wall, at least said second portion of the brush having bristles deployed for sweeping product from the continuous sidewall of the elongated bottle as the threaded cap is removed from and replaced on the threaded neck of the bottle.

Cosmetics And Mascara Brushes With Multi-Fiber Bristles

US Patent:
2004010, Jun 10, 2004
Filed:
Jul 3, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/613354
Inventors:
Dominic Paratore - Manchester MA, US
Martin Vasas - Fairfield CT, US
Assignee:
The Bridgeport Metal Goods Manufacturing Company
International Classification:
A45D040/26
US Classification:
132/218000
Abstract:
Cosmetics brushes particularly suitable for applying mascara include a plurality of multi-fiber bristles deployed extending from a core, at least some of the multi-fiber bristles including a plurality of individual fibers in supportive interengagement. In one embodiment, a central support fiber has smaller and less stiff additional fibers braided or woven thereabout. The additional fibers may themselves be braided bundles of microfiber. In another embodiment, thin fibers are constrained and supported within a hollow support fiber, which may be a fiber with a C-shaped cross section and an entry slot to the hollow central portion. In another embodiment, a spiral support fiber is spirally wound around a plurality of smaller diameter fibers. In a further embodiment, a plurality of fibers are braided together to form a multi-fiber bristle, and some of the fibers may be bundles of microfibers. In these cosmetics brushes, fibers may be selected and mixed to achieve desired performance.

Twisted Wire Mascara Brush With Mixed Long And Short Bristles

US Patent:
2005014, Jul 7, 2005
Filed:
Jan 30, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/503335
Inventors:
David Dunton - Stratford CT, US
Martin Vasas - Fairfield CT, US
International Classification:
A45D040/26
US Classification:
132218000
Abstract:
A mascara brush has long and short bristles extending from a twisted wire core. The short bristles may be provided in more than one length. The tips of the long bristles form an outer surface of the brush, and the tips of the short bristles form at least one subsurface of the brush. The mascara brush is made by placing long and short fibers between the parallel wires of a ā€œUā€ shaped wire form, and twisting the wire form. The wires are supported for placement in the wire form by a pick bar, the notches of which are partially filled with long fibers and partially filled with short fibers. The long and short fibers are provided from at least two fiber feed towers. A metering plate under one feed tower partially restricts the volume of the notches of the pick bar, so that the tower only partially fills the notches. A lift cam under the other fiber feed tower selectively supports fibers from entering the notches of the pick bar, so that the pick bar can be passed under the tower to the other tower for partial filling.
