Abstract:
An improved egg carton comprising a container having a plurality of cup-shaped receptacles aligned in a plurality of rows, each of which are conformed to and adapted to receive a vertically positioned egg. A plurality of posts are positioned between the rows of eggs. The carton also includes a pair of upper sidewalls integrally hinged along hinge lines on opposite sides of the container. The upper sidewalls are normally biased toward a substantially horizontal position to permit eggs to be placed in the receptacles. The upper sidewalls have a sufficient length to extend at least to the outer edge of the first and last eggs in the rows of eggs and have a height sufficient to extend above the upper ends of the eggs when the upper sidewalls are aligned in a vertical position. A hot sealant is applied to the hinge lines, causing the upper sidewalls to remain in the vertical position. A clear plastic film is forced over and around upper portions of the eggs extending out of the container.

Abstract:
A piston engine employing a flywheel rotor, in lieu of a crankshaft, driven hydraulically by the piston. One end of a plunger is connected to the piston, the other end being slidably disposed in an hydraulic cylinder. In the combustion mode, fuel and oxygen are injected and spark ignited, both by the same variable speed D. C. speed control motor. The piston-driven plunger displaces hydraulic fluid in the cylinder through a high speed orifice to impinge against spaced cavity surfaces formed along the periphery of the flywheel rotor, thereby spinning the rotor. A slide valve is disposed in the orifice and is hydraulically connected to the cylinder so that pressure changes in the cylinder reciprocate the slide valve to provide momentary delay, during pressure build-up, and then release of the cylinder fluid, thereby increasing the fluid velocity. Hydraulic fluid is recirculated during an exhaust stroke wherein the piston is returned by injected air pressure.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a modular engine assembly incorporating a primary engine, an auxiliary engine and a device for storing kinetic energy. The kinetic energy storage device is drivingly coupled to the primary engine. In response to demand for additional power, the auxiliary engine is selectively engaged with the energy storage device by a clutch. The auxiliary engine is thereby turned over and brought up to speed. Once the auxiliary engine is brought up to speed, fuel is supplied whereby the auxiliary engine starts or fires only after it is turning over at a high RPM. Once started, the auxiliary engine drives the transmission through the clutch and primary engine thus increasing available power upon demand.

Abstract:
An air and fuel mixing device incorporates a Venturi throat or other mixing means for feeding a highly combustible mixture of fuel and pressurized air to an electrical fuel injector valve or directly to the intake manifold in a system for starting an internal combustion engine. The system replaces the choke in a conventional electrical ignition type internal combustion engine. The fuel injector valve is controlled to inject a limited quantity of a highly combustible atomized air-fuel mixture into the engine intake manifold during engine startup. Startup is achieved with minimum fuel waste and produces a minimum of exhaust pollutants. A modified form of the invention is shown as employed in a fuel injection type internal combustion engine system wherein high pressure air-fuel mixture is fed to the fuel injectors solely through use of a conventional low pressure fuel pump and air supply. The injectors operate to discharge a highly volatile, combustible, air-fuel mixture under pressure, instead of raw fuel thus significantly increasing combustion efficiency during engine startup to minimize fuel waste and reduce deleterious exhaust emissions. Another modified form of the invention is shown wherein the system is employed to feed a mixture of fuel and pressurized air to the engine intake manifold in response to an acceleration command from the engine throttle control during normal engine operation.

Abstract:
In a packaging process in which a molten sheet of thermosetting or thermoplastic resin material is extruded and projected from a film forming head and the articles to be packaged are moved along a conveyor underlying the head so as to intercept the projected sheet of resin material and be enveloped and covered thereby, apparatus and method are disclosed for developing a suction or vacuum at a location beneath the conveyed articles substantially underlying the extruded sheet of resin. A pressure differential is created about each article, in which the pressure is substantially reduced about the lower or bottom surface so as to cause the intercepted, molten sheet of resin material to be drawn around the upper portions of the article and sealed about the perimeter of the article's bottom surface. Simultaneously with this wrapping and sealing, excess resin film is trimmed away from the article and collected in a scrap basket disposed in the air stream used in developing the suction effect. The suction further acts as a tensioning device to prevent the projected film from running with the packages.
