Control Circuit And System For Providing Emergency Lighting

US Patent:
4451762, May 29, 1984
Filed:
Jun 18, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/389806
Inventors:
Don A. Forte - Newark OH
Michael B. Aldava - Tujunga CA
Assignee:
Manville Service Corporation - Denver CO
International Classification:
H05B 3910
US Classification:
315 87
Abstract:
A control circuit and system is disclosed for providing emergency lighting from a single source of electrical power which itself is capable of providing input power alternately in the form of a sinusoidal power signal and a square wave power signal during interruption of the sinusoidal power signal. In the preferred form of the invention, a high intensity discharge lamp (HID) and an emergency lamp are provided in the same lighting fixture. A control circuit in the form of a power source detector first detects whether a sinusoidal power signal or a square wave signal is being supplied from a power station onto a pair of input lines. The power station automatically supplies the detector with input power in the form of a square wave rather than the normal sinusoidal power signal when an emergency condition exists such as normal power failure. The detector couples the input power to the HID lamp and the input power is sinusoidal in form and, alternatively, automatically couples the input power to the emergency lamp when the input power is in the form of a square wave.

Battery Monitoring System Of Cell Groups And Display

US Patent:
4931738, Jun 5, 1990
Filed:
Jan 27, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/303452
Inventors:
Hazen L. MacIntyre - Woodland Hills CA
Richard D. Graham - Acton CA
Michael B. Aldava - Tehachapi CA
Assignee:
Kaufel Group, Ltd. - Dorval
International Classification:
G01N 2746
US Classification:
324435
Abstract:
A battery monitoring system has an LED matrix displaying plural battery group conditions. The matrix has a column defining reference row of LED indicators, each active LED representing an adjacent voltage range. The reference row is responsive to an average battery voltage of plural battery groups. Aligned in columns with the reference row LED's are plural LED rows, each row representing an individual battery group. An active LED indicates an individual battery group voltage of the corresponding individual battery group. Analog multiplexing of scanned battery group voltages are sequentially applied to the matrix rows at a scan rate greater than the visual persistence of the LED's so that at any given moment, an LED appears active in each row as well as in the reference row. To focus on a single battery group, a scan switch interrupts application of scanned battery voltages. A digital display also selectively indicates either overall plural battery groups voltage or individual battery group voltage.

Interrelational Audio Kinetic Entertainment System

US Patent:
5191615, Mar 2, 1993
Filed:
Jan 17, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/466507
Inventors:
Michael B. Aldava - Tehachapi CA
Hazen L. MacIntyre - Woodland Hills CA
Assignee:
The Drummer Group - Woodland Hills CA
International Classification:
H04H 500
H04H 704
A63H 328
US Classification:
381 3
Abstract:
Movable and audible toys and other animated devices spaced apart from a television screen are provided with program synchronized audio and control data to interact with the program viewer in relationship to the television program. A sampling keyboard-based encoder for kinetic device actuating signals is coupled via an audio mixer to an audiovisual programming source and television transmitter carrying an audio based kinetic and audio signal complex. At a remote location, coded audio and kinetic device signals along with audiovisual programming is received and the audiovisual programming content is displayed for viewing and listening. Stereo soundband based program audio signals are decoded and separated from the stereo sound band based device audio and kinetic signals. The device audio and kinetic signals are retransmitted to a spaced apart toy causing the device to be audible and move in synchronization with the spaced apart audiovisual programming. A single band low powered FM transmitter carries the audio kinetic signal complex in proximity yet spaced apart from a receiver coupled to an audio cassette configured magnetic head transducer disposed in the kinetic device to communicate audio and kinetic information to a device speaker and motors to cause the device to move and be audible.
